Leave the music to the djs and focus on getting the peeps there. So we cant have djs who are promoters?

I think the main point was: If you want to throw a party, throw a party. If you want to mix, mix. But if a promoter decides to book himself for his party, kind of to get his name out there or whatever, and something happens while HE's on stage .... who's going to pick up the ball?
Promoting an event is not just about fame ..... you take on many different responsibilities as well, and that should be kept in mind. Towards your djs, towards your staff, towards the venue owner, and towards your crowd.

well, some of us are able to keep a balance between DJing and promoting :P ...but, as usual, it helps when things are done by people who know what they are doing and who do things for the right reasons... ...At least when the promoter is a DJ, there might actually be better chances that the dj stuff might be set-up properly....well, maybe... .. . |

Na, of course I wasn't putting everyone in the same basket. If you have a crew with you that you can trust to take care of everything while you're on stage, then enjoy it. Not much different than from taking a "break" or whatever. Just make sure there's someone competent in charge :)
P.S: Guidelines are mainly for noobs. Those who know their stuff don't need to be told what to do, they can be creative and do whatever the fuck they want, most of the time with amazing results. And they know how to kick things back in gears when it flops. So I'm just trying to give "general advice" here. :)

I'm not happy with certain parties, and i have thrown my own, my way... and yes i do consider the 6 events ive thrown to be quality... even the first club night, even the first rave

I'd say that you should play if you're promoting a scene you're a part of that nobody else is representing. Case in point, it's been a while but before William I put my time and energy into throwing pretty much the only Breakcore events in town at Pote:tr and the place downstairs from Nice Music. Both defunct, but before the fall this was the only place where I could play, at the request of my friends who I had booked. Not saying I was wonderful but that I've been producing for a while and that I wasn't playing "Zero" over and over again or anything.

It becomes our business when a continuously failing promoter keeps throwing parties which tarnishes the entire rave community's image, values, goals, and everything that was put into building in. |

Promoters should not be high when getting their shit together the day of the party.
It slows everything down. 100%. |

Problem is: As long as there is money changing hands, it should be considered business. Not a fucking trip with friends. The fact that parties are meant to be fun changes nothing to the responsibilities that promoters have to deliver real value to their customers: the crowd. - Heck, La Ronde is all about fun too, but you can be damn sure it is managed like a real business. People should definitely mind their own business ... and treat it like the business it should be in the first place, with a professional attitude.
