Honestly .. A home studio for electronic music is quite simple these days. I sold all my synths as they no longer served a function. So count yourself lucky we have bad ass plugins which can be acquired for free to take their place. However, I wouldn't sacrifice quality on the basics. Good computer. Good monitors. (Adams, DyneAudio, Genelec). Decent sound card. For the most part a big fancy expensive sound card isn't that important unless you are recording external instruments. (which with the lack of hardware synths .. I don't foresee you doing much recording) So a simple 24bit card USB whatever would do fine. Monitors and Computer.... I wouldn't waste my time, energy and money on crap thought. You will just find yourself investing more money in the end.

Call the party "FREE KETAMINE" .. and you might get enough people.

I say send all the protesters into meat grinders and make them into Big Macs. As we consume their flesh, our Grace and Lord Ronald McDonald will return to Earth and share his wisdom and meaty goodness.

If you want a flyer designer and some help . let me know. Maybe I can sit you down and help you make things more "realistic" for you. These guys are right. You're approach needs to be a bit more grounded. Honestly I believe every aspect should be planned out before you even release the information. I even pay deposits and sign contracts before I book DJs or anything. This way you don't have to run around last minute not knowing if your party is gonna happen.

I gotta find someone to live in my place. I want someone that goes out to parties but doesn't live a fucked up life doing drugs everyday.

There's obviously something wrong because I don't know a single DJ / artist in psytrance that survives off music alone. Now I'm working full time. No time to make music anymore. That's - 1 artist

It's strictly a matter of opinion .. I thought Talamasca was CHEESE. *puke*
Electypnose.. Well, indeed killer. I brought him cause he is one of the few live acts worth bringing.
It's a matter of taste, but he is dynamic enough to make an interesting live set.
Seriously many of them just play their album in ableton or all the tracks sound the same.

Obviously a good live act is nice.
Really the point I'm making, is that if I had to pick a live act and have no deco OR deco and local DJs ... I take the deco.

And headliner doesn't mean the party will be financially succesful .. actually .. the opposite.
Every single headliner I've brought lost money. So basically, I've concluded that bringing a headliner means I'm willing to make a "donation" to the scene.

Electrypnose = 1000$ lost
Artax = 500$ lost
Polly = 4000$ lost
Chromatone $ Random = 600$ lost
Megadrop & Spook = 400$ lost
Artifakt = 800$ lost

Parties should be 40$ .. straight up.
So everyone can get paid. Well. DJs shouldn't be on welfare, and organizers shouldn't be losing their shirts all time.

Don't even talk about cat piss .. guh

In most places, psychedelic trance culture is NOT ravey rave. I do psychedelic parties. Not raves. I'm not a raver. I think people are confused with that. Environment design is equally valued as music in my world.

I'd rather pay 3000$ for paintings that WE SIMPLY CANNOT MAKE OURSELVES, then a DJ that plays the latest beatport tracks or hits play on Ableton. Most "headliners" play tracks I know anyways. Woopie.
Not to say they aren't talented, but the point is, our local DJs can pretty much accomplish the same effect, however we simply can't replicate an artist's 15 years of psychedelic paintings. Buying some cheesy Space Tribe batiks at Psychonaut doesn't cut it. Julien Sayer is great, but he is THE ONLY painter in Montreal.

Maybe the fate of this event was mostly contributed to the fact that it was at the end of the month, and everyone has to pay rent ;) Maybe because there was a free dubstep show the night before ? Maybe Noah put a curse on me !? Who knows.

Anyways. I don't think there is a stable success model for making parties.
I've tried every possible combination with extremely erratic results. You should bear in mind that I've been making parties for 10 years now. 5$ or 50$, Headliners or no headliners, Painter or penis ventriloquist, every party is like hitting a randomizer button. You never really know what the final result will be.

Astral Projection .. 10 000 $ Profit.
Infected Mushroom .. same venue, same formula .. 30 000$ lost.

There is no predictable pattern.

Our "headliner" was the painter / decorater .. Duh.

I completely agree that there is too much of the same psy party every weekend on repeat.

Pretty much what he said. I never intended to make parties with the "lowest common denominator" in mind. I just can't bring myself to do a half ass job to "keep it cheap".

Yea pretty much .. it was 20$ all the way until the week of the party.

Don't think there will be a next one for a long while.

The venue costs almost 3000$ as well .. we pretty much needed close to full capacity to break even.

And it also explains the high door price. For all those people who claim 40$ is too expensive for a party. It's a 1 time experience. It's kind of disapointing that the party people in general don't understand that.

LOL .. I thought it was kind of amusing to have the busiest corner in downtown shake like that.

Just so everyone knows .. our painter has arrived safely in Canada. Everything is a go.

This painter is gonna be the bomb !

Ye I've never been to a party before where I felt like I was swarmed by SWAT teams and drug dogs.

The music has come A VERY LONG way if you ask me..
I was listening to all my old stuff .. and honestly .. it sounds like crap.
The musical element is still good. But it sounds like crap.
It would not shake a dancefloor compared to new production and mastering.

Also there are now many styles. If you like the old school sound like I do ..
Check out new tunes by old artists. It's my favorite. The wisdom is there.

Dick Treavor, Aphid Moon, Laughing Buddha, Tristan etc etc ..
They are all still pumping out sick music.. and it's better then ever.

All psytrancers should be put into camps and force fed their own poo. They must wear an upside down OM symbol on their arm. They will pay for their crimes against humanity !!
