How does that bring awareness for suffering children!??! BOWLING FOR 100 HOURS? HOlds 16 GUINESS RECORDS AHHAHA

Man breaks record for watching TV

Friday, September 16, 2005; Posted: 12:29 p.m. EDT (16:29 GMT)

Suresh Joachim broke the Guinness world record for the longest time spent watching TV. He finished Friday with 69 hours and 48 minutes.

After passing the previous record of 50 hours and 7 minutes Thursday, Joachim continued until shortly after 7 a.m. Friday morning (EDT).

Joachim did his TV viewing in the lobby of WABC-TV as part of the "Guinness World Record Breaker Week" on the syndicated "Live With Regis and Kelly."

Sitting on a brown leather couch, he watched nothing but ABC shows.

"I'm going to be a little tired of watching TV after this," Joachim told The Associated Press by phone during a brief break.

Rules for the couch potato honor, as stipulated by Guinness, allow for a 5-minute break every hour and a 15-minute break every 8 hours. The viewer must otherwise be constantly looking at the screen.

The hardest part, Joachim said on "Regis and Kelly," was "I couldn't watch the people" -- the many, waving passers-by on the street outside the ABC studio.

Joachim, who lives in Toronto but hails from Sri Lanka, now holds more than 16 Guinness records, including the longest duration balancing on one foot (76 hours, 40 minutes) and bowling for 100 hours. He does it, he says, to raise awareness of suffering children.

They try pepper spray and he fought it off. They shot him with rubber bullets, man those things really hurt, but the big guy was still up and holding his katana in a defense posture. He was up against a wall. So finally, the cops called in a APC ( armored personnel carrier ) with a water cannon on top. They hose him down on his ass.

new article on [ cfcf.ca ] says:

Rampage at Snowdon Metro

A woman in her 50s was fighting for her life on Wednesday after a man went berserk with a knife at the Snowdon Metro station.
A 27-year-old man stabbed five people at the station about 7:20 on Tuesday evening.
Witnessses said a bulky man groped, beat and stabbed a woman on the Metro platform, sending her to hospital in critical condition.
He then attacked two other women and two men.
Montreal police spokesman Robert Mansueto said there was no motive for the attacks.
"It appears to be a very random act," Mansueto told CFCF News.
"(An act) of an extreme violence that we don't normally see very much in Montreal."
Two officers were hurt while arresting the suspect, who faced a long list of charges Wednesday including attempted murder.

Holy SHIT! This is crazy...and horrible.. Ok I live at Snowdon Metro.. and last night I, as usual was riding home to Snowdon.. The metro car passed right past Snowdon without stopping so I had to get out another station and find my way to my bus. We drove past Snowdon Metro and there were like 30 cop cars and they were blocking off the station.

Look Why: (Poor woman!! DAMN.. fucked up shit)

Berserk attacker wounds 5
Panic in Snowdon. Woman battered on metro platform, in critical condition

ROBERTO ROCHA
The Gazette

September 14, 2005

A man is expected to be charged today with attempted murder and assault with a weapon after five women were injured in savage attacks in the Snowdon metro station last night.

Witnesses say the incident began about 7:20 p.m., when they saw a bulky man in his late 20s beat a woman in her 40s on the metro platform, then smash her face against a wall.

He then attacked other women while threatening to rape them. Witnesses said the assailant was holding a weapon, but they were unsure whether it was a knife or a hammer. Frightened onlookers then rushed out of the station.

Carmina Vanessa Senosier, 18, was waiting for her boyfriend at the station's exit. Seeing people flee the building, she thought a bomb had gone off.

She heard pale and shaken metro riders talk about the attacker and a victim lying in a pool of blood.

Then she saw the alleged attacker run out of the station, down Westbury Ave., his hands bloody.

"He started banging on people's doors, asking them to let him in," Senosier said.

When police arrived, the man resisted arrest, injuring two officers and himself in the head, Montreal police Constable Steve Morissette said.

Other witnesses said a man tried to tackle the attacker in the station, but was punched in the face. A young woman was seen leaving the station with her clothes drenched in blood, possibly from another victim.

The attacker's first victim was listed in critical condition in a hospital, where doctors feared for her life last night. The other four victims were slightly injured.

Police closed the station for several hours, telling commuters to walk to neighbouring stations.

A motive for the attack is unknown, Morissette said, as the suspect was not co-operating with investigators last night.

The reason there is a big class distinction between the minorities in lower classes and the higher classes is the quality of education and the lack of well paying jobs for people with low education levels. I know this I have witnessed it. I am from Northern Minnesota. I went to college at a community college(similar to cegep except more expensive and the programs are generally two years long) near my hometown.

I'm American too, and i noticed with my friends who shelled out thousands of dollars for college (community) and although they have a diploma, they can't get any job.

Cheney, Gonzales tour disaster area
Vice president sees 'very impressive' relief effort

Vice President Cheney speaks with reporters in Mississippi Thursday.

GULFPORT, Mississippi (AP) -- Walking a hurricane-riddled street, Vice President Dick Cheney declared Thursday that much progress is being made in a disaster relief effort he termed "very impressive."

Cheney's plane took him on a course over heavily damaged houses as he arrived to this Gulf Coast town destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

After meeting with state and local officials, Cheney and his wife, Lynne, toured a particularly damaged part of the town.

The vice president told reporters he was struck by the "very positive, can-do" attitude of Mississippians toward the help they are getting.

In general, Mississippi officials have been much more complimentary of the federal hurricane response than those from Louisiana and, particularly, New Orleans.

President Bush dispatched Cheney to the region, amid persistent criticism of the sluggish pace of the federal piece of the response, to examine any bureaucratic red tape getting in the way of helping people and to focus on the long-term issues at hand.

"I think the progress we're making is significant," Cheney said. "I think the performance, in general, at least in terms of the information I've received from locals, is definitely very impressive."

He added: "That's not to say there's not an awful lot of work to be done -- there is."

While Cheney spoke, a passer-by hurled an expletive at the vice president. "First time I've heard it," Cheney said, when asked if he was hearing a lot of such sentiments.

Most of the people Cheney met with were friendly. Lynne Lofton, whose house further down the street was completely destroyed, was an exception.

"I think this media opportunity today is a terrible waste of time and taxpayer money," she said. "They've picked a nice neighborhood where people have insurance and most are Republicans."

Cheney was also accompanied by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Later Thursday, Cheney was heading to Louisiana.

well ..theres plenty of poor white people in surrending homes who are dying of dehydration because they are now homeless due to the storm. The feds are giving them equal "attention" as the stranded poor blacks. These are towns in the other southern states affected, but they aren't getting as much attention as New Orleans because they aren't flooded. But, when the news does cover whats going on in these towns, they too are dying of no food/no water/no help from the feds.

There is a racial problem in the states, no doubt about that. But in this case i believe it is class hatred. All the stranded people in the south right now are poor; either black and in the ghetto or white and in the trailer.. All of them had the same amount of help (non help) after the hurricaine ruined their homes.

However, right now in the US it is easier to get a job if you are a "person of color" IF you are qualified, over a white person because of that act (i forget the name). Theres an act where you must have a certain percentage of non-whites, and they need to fill the quota, and companies want to fill that asap. Also no company wants to be accused of racism. Many people have sued companies for not hiring them due to racism, and as most of you know, its not hard to sue in the US. So many companies will hire non whites (if qualified) at the drop of a hat. No company wants to be sued. Thats business.

The main problem with race in America right now is with all the bigots, and the fact that after so many years of oppression its hard to move up a class. Right now if you are low class in the US, the schools, the companies make it hard for you to move up.
Thats why I believe its a class issue. Its really true right now that all the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. The middle class in the US is dying.
