Yeah I'm surprised by the lack of a regular 'pure' trance night in montreal. I love the stuff and considered doing a regular night, but the kind of people it brings and the kind of places i'd have to deal with are just not my scene ... I'd have to start from scratch and learn how to promote all over again

I'm now taking requests for wierd vids and shows and movies etc that we'll be showing in the chill room. So far i've got a bunch of transformers, mayday1994 rave footage, love parade96 footage, sensation megamix vids, forbidden zone ( [ www.badmovies.org ] ), WIRE2000 vids (japanese stadium raves), baraka, microcosmos.

Looking for more ideas for vids ... got 8 hours of time to fill and would love to have all sorts of interesting shit to show.

Not to diss Aria because i got a lot of respect for the club, but I think they took the dive when they stepped away from straight up trance and techno and moved into a fringe elec-tech sound. I went there a few times over the past few months and it was painfully minimal music, compared to in the past when it was hands in the air RAEV MUZIK, either full on trance or techno or that techtrance combo that has made Preach oh so popular.

Hard music does not just mean hardcore, anything hard-edge is cool (includes broken beat). Names and styles of djs are wicked ... mp3 demo links are dope too. DJs feel free to nominate yerselves.

wow ... just spent all day today working on the 'backdrop' for the dj booth. It's gonna look fucking awesome / trippy as hell. And no, black light paint is NOT involved :-p

Well i think many promoters aren't lazy, but when you're doin a big event and you got 1001 things to do, the first thing that gets the cut is the decorations etc. For me, part of the reason for doing the HARDER party on the 16th is so that I can concentrate on doing some new and inventive decoration / atmosphere things. We're spending most of our budget on a multi-monitor + projector setup, plus a crazy backdrop. I definately wanna talk to you D about some other ideas too.

Yeah the public just wants a nice beat to bounce dat ass and pick up some bitches with. Those of us who are out for more than that can get quickly bored with conventional club music. I always wanted the Hard as Fuck series to be the event that bridged the gap between people who were into general rave music and people who were into hardcore. And of course expose the hardcore people some more to techno and hard dance. There needs to be companies out there who aren't just 100% specialized in their specific genre of music. You can't expect the average teenager to go from watching muchmusic to listening to Nausenbluten without some kind of exposure to more 'commercial' or more 'mainstream' music first. The HARDER club events are another step towards exposing people to aggressive dance music, less about the label of 'Hardcore' and more about the label of 'Harder'.

Yeah it's definately the new trend to be bitter and jaded. On the other hand we've all gotten excited about shit and then been let down too many times. That's the thing with the rave scene ... when it's great it's great, but when it's bad it fucking sucks. People who don't look at shit with a judgemental eye often get fucked over. I admit, I'm pretty jaded myself, but I try not to let it ruin my fun hehe

I agree what's lacking is often effort to 'think outside the box', where in this case the 'box' is 'dj + sound system = rave' mentality.

Cool lights, cool decos, cool visuals, live performers, etc etc.

Man, Montreal can be pretty damned jaded huh! Although of course the music and the vibe are two things that are definately needed at a party, I'm wondering about the extra shit that a promoter did to impress you

Yeah this isn't a thread about why the scene sucks or where all the ravers went. I wanna know what was the last thing at a rave that really impressed you ... the last thing you saw that made you think 'Fuck yeah ... only at a rave'.

Yeah, seriously. People who follow the trend are the lame ones, not the people who just dress how they feel. I look at dressing candy for a rave the same as dressing in a tuxedo for the opera, it's just a fun way to make the event more special. Some people dress up, some don't.

It's only gonna get better. As i said, this one is smaller in terms of capacity but the special features we're adding in are better than most of the major Hard as Fuck parties. And we're making some very important announcements at the event which i think people will be very excited to hear.
