if the music stops, or there is no bass, there party stops. but if the visuals stop, or there is no blue, the party continues. I'm not saying visuals are not important at all, but it's not THAT important.

tho it's true VJs rarely get recognized for more than just deco, like an afterthought, in the fine print, and often reviewed like "hey nice bathroom!" but still, cant take it too seriously. it's a party, not an art gallery. and if you're not having a good time, what's the fukn point?

also, I didnt have any problem with the sound in the NTK space. The music totally saturated my brain and body I couldnt have asked for more and my ears didnt hurt for too much highs or too much bass. It was perfect. also killer mind blowing sets by MUTANTE and MOEBIUS and ATAKA and JUlieD, tho cant say I heard anything bad, those I just remember the most.

wicked space>sound>setup>vibes! I am really glad I could come from Toronto for this and do visuals for the NTK. LOVE those crazy wankers! I was so sad to leave again so soon. I had a wicked time tho, danced harder than I have in ages, and fell in love again, again, again... HARDCORE!! =P hahaha

This is an interesting conversation about VJing... I've been VJing for 4 years and have done many different parties, in forests, on beaches, in abandoned buildings, under bridges etc and my gear has been through shit but it's been worth 100% the risk of losing anything. I almost lost my laptop due to wet and sand at teknival a couple years ago, and lost a hard drive recently with a lot of work on it, but I gained awesome experiences that are worth more than the equipment. My style is live composition to the music and dont often take requests cuz I know my djs and their sound and what works best for the parties I do. I have taken some content or suggestions from DJs/promoters, but they rarely come up with much. Some people complain about my mixing style, wanting it faster more like a music video, or more automation effects like "hey you ever heard of Milkdrop" but fuk'm every artist has their own way. It's IS a lot of work and requires constant attention to do visuals for a whole night, usually it's just me, but I love to do it. I was worried about leaving my gear to go downstairs or the bathroom and didnt go downstairs more than twice for a very short visit (they were playing some wicked electro there and I enjoyed dancing to it but couldnt stay long), but there was Ugo and my friend Alysha from toronto that were around, or others so if I wanted to dance I could leave it for short periods of time... there's no chance I could NOT dance ;) There were a few problems of course, not long enough cords, bad cords with no Blue, no converter/connector for the other projector (which could barely project an image anyhow), forgot my screen, Ugo's laptop was not behaving, etc. but it worked out. setup is always a challenge and I enjoy it as much as I do the mixing. I was happy with a few mixes I did (while I was sober enough to do it) not that it seems many people noticed. I dont like to be too pretentious about visuals, it's not as important as the music anyhow. If it works, it works, if not, oh well. it's something to stare at and maybe trip out on for a minute or two. the worst thing you can do to a dancefloor is light it up like a movie theatre that makes it too bright for people to dance and they are just standing there staring at it like those tv screens in the subway. I know it's a big deal in Europe and Japan, where every DJ has their own VJ bitch, and it's picking up here, there's a couple VJ festival/expo coming this year in Toronto, but still the equipment is expensive and few have the time or money to put into it. and DJ's still get all the sex ;)

HUGE HUGE respect to the NTK and Twisted Bass crews. I hope you invite me to come setup at your next party. with a VJ gangbang or not... either way you guys seriously know how to throw a sick jam.
