I'm finally upgrading from my P4 1.6 GHz to something new.
I haven't been following the PC market, so I'm out of touch with current prices.

Is this a good price for this system?

- Intel Pentium IV 3.0GHz (Retail Box & 533MHz Front Side Bus Speed)
- ECS Pentium IV Motherboard, supports DDR RAM
- 512MB DDR RAM 333MHz
- 80GB Maxtor 7200RPM Hard Drive
- LG 52x24x52 CDRW
- 64MB 3D AGP Video Card
- PCI Sound Card
- 10/100 Network Controller
- 1.44MB Floppy
- 4 USB 2.0 Ports located in the back of the case
- 350 Watt ATX Case - 2 Front USB Ports
For $849.

If this is a crappy price, where can I get a similar system for cheaper?

- 64MB 3D AGP Video Card
- PCI Sound Card

It's bad generic stuff, but that's not super important to me. I don't use my machine for gaming. I might upgrade the sound card though.

So it's a good price, despite generic parts and the fact that it doesn't come with a monitor?

Good to know :) Thanks for the info!

yeah I agree with Ian... even an 800mhz p3 would be fine for general work and browsing.. if the system is slow it probably needs a good reformat and fresh windows install

I felt the same way. The burner isn't important. I have an older CD burner which is unused and I have a brand new DVD burner as well.

I like this one:
- this case: [ members.shaw.ca ]
- P4 2.6GHz (800MHz System Bus Speed Socket 478, Hyper Threading Technology, 512k Advanced L2 Advanced Transfer Cache)
- this motherboard: [ www.ecsusa.com ]
- 512MB DDR400 PC3200 RAM
- NVIDIA GEFORCE FX5200 128MB DDR with DVI & TV-OUT 8XAGP VIDEO CARD
- AC97 Audio Codes Soundonboard with IN, OUT and MIC ports
- 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 Hard Drive
- 52X32X52X CD-RW Drive
- Ethernet Card
- 6-in-1 Internal Memory Card Reader

all for $737

LOL... it'll be 2 years in May that I have the system and I decided it's time for something new. There's no problems with the old system. It runs fine. I use it for web and graphic design. It's a P4 1.6Ghz, 256MB DDR RAM, 10GB + 40GB hard drives, and an LG Multi-Function DVD+/-RW drive.

The motherboards that your showing for the computers are boards that I can't find reviews on anywhere, so you might encounter some stability issues as well as the whole myriad of problems associated with something that is for the most part probably lower quality. Really stable boards as of late have been coming from MSI and the DFI LanParty series of boards.

Also, your not specifying a heatsink.fan combo for the boards, so I'm guessing that you're getting the generic ones with it, which isn't recomended. Check out Zalman or Thermaltake heatsinks. Even if your not going to over-clock, the CPUs get DAMN hot, and the stock coolers aren't usually too good at keeping things low.
