indie is like, independant rock, which is usually a term aplied to bands that suck and do nothing but whine about not getting a record deal. They've formed a whole comunity of talentless bands who should have stayed in their parent's garage.

emo is the same thing, except they call themselves punk and cry a lot about getting dumped by their girlfriend for the school's quarterback.

So are some candy girls, but does that really justify happy hardcore?

the only emo i know is Get Up Kids and Dashboard Confesional... not my cup of tea but wish is fine.

then there's this 'emocore' they wanna define by the contrast of punk/metal riffs, mosh parts, stop-starts and screamy vocals with the more singy melodic parts. it's not a very new style either, been around since the early mid 90's with bands such as Portrait, Anah Aevia and a bunch more.

i think its' pretty good music but in the spirit of hardcore you're supposed to be strong not dwell on your pain. can understand that it's a physical outpour which is good, but i don't know man, everyone wants to redefine hardcore which was supposed to have strong political and social statement

then there's emo the little trend of an excuse for a fucken fashion statement label. also an excuse to be straightedge for just one show so you get to wear a huge X as an acessory which is plain retarded. you can find them breaking their edge weekly at Foufs. thanks alot for cheapening the meaning. don't wanna start talking about straightedge on this board. i only personally know a handfull of people in life that deserve to wear the X. i don't even wear it myself cause i never felt i had to show it.

it's just as bad as any other fashion-goth, Mall-core, Mall-Punks and weekend plateau hippies

there's these tshirts called Fashioncore t-shirs i won't start with

Ahh that's harsh...

Well I'll say this much: The puropse of going independent is to be freed from the restrictions that are imposed by a distribution system that is run based on popularity, profit margins, demand-creating tactics and modular functionality (i.e. a 3 minute song of this genre fits in this spot for this purpose etc.)

But once you're given that freedom, put it to good use! Don't flood the underground with underworked, unoriginal and uninspired output just because you want a shot at the spotlight.

Indie rock is "independant" and not on "major labels" because they all sound the same, sing about the same things, and they all suck the same. No originality, just a bunch of clones who are "rebelling against the corporate machine of the music industry" but they're not really sure how or why.

Being independany is one thing. Indie music is more about whining to badly recorded "folk-inspired" rock and trying to make balads that all just suck. Indie singers sound like 14 year old boys who just started hitting puberty and their guitar players all sound like they want to make acoustic folk on an electric guitar with distortion, repeating the exact same chord progression in diffrent keys.

major labels buy stuff that will sell on a mass-scale. You do that by either picking up people who will appeal to lots of people or you retool a band so they do...

If know anything about the music industry you would understand how much they screw around with you and that is a bad thing to some people.

Corporate rock is pretty lame in my opinion anyway... But I am not a fan of emo or anything, it just seems like another group of people who rebel against the norm by all doing the same thing...

your throwing around the indie label, like they try to categorise bands as campus, college, garage or emo

labels can suck a brocoli cock

being independant is the future... I mean as a method of music promotion, the big label thing doesn't seem like a system that could last
