so

i was talking to a nutritionist who tells me that the reason i'm always sick is because i've been vegetarian for 10 years.

she says that tofu/beans/nuts/combining food do not form a complete protein. that only by eating meat will i get the nutrients i need.

now i disagree with that because i have read enough on the subject to have come to the conclusion that humans can live without eating animals.

she tells me that studies have been done to show that all the studies i read were false.

i have looked and i can't find any of these studies stating that vegetarianism is always unhealthy.

other than the fact that i was pissed off by the fact that she just assumes she's smarter than me when it comes to my lifestyle choices, i was pissed off at myself for thinking for a split second that maybe this was my magic bullet......eat meat, stop getting sick.

i can't do it, the thought of chewing on a piece of dead flesh is enough to make me hurl.

so i want links, i want book suggestions, i want answers and information.

i want to know why every meat eater i've ever met tries to force blood and guts down my throat.

so rant, discuss and inform me.

i've never understood veganism at all, vegaterianism, i can grasp, kind of. but really, i know that there is alot of information stating that humans CAN live without meat, but it doesn't mean you are living healthily, meat has ESSENTIAL minerals and other scientific stuff i really don't konw anything about, in fact i don't know very much about this at all, just, i really don't see how forsaking meat product is a healthy choice, all vegans i've ever met are unhealthy, the diet doesn't give them the energy they need, all because of a diet choice that is very similar to anorexia...vegetarian diets are frought with health problems

i'm not one to encourage you to eat meat, i completly against it actually, if you want to be vegan or vegetarian, it's up to you, but really, you must realise that humans ARE meat eating animals, no one would ever make a lion eat only vegetables, the same with people

I was told the exact same thing by nutritionists at the Montreal Childrens when I was 13. To eat healthy, you MUST eat meat, because there are proteins in meat that can't even be "synthesized" in labs and put in pills, and your body NEEDS Those to function properly.

Of course, you can want to be diffrent and all and stick to not eating meat and being vegetarian. OR, you can take a stab at doing somethng that might potentially be HEALTHY for you and try eating some meat to see if it makes you feel better and if you get sick less often.

I know that I can't go for more than 3 days without eating meat. If I do, then my body starts rejecting other foods and I get weak and nauseous. Proteine and iron suplements don't work for that at all.

Meat is not the only source of protein. Just eat alternatives and enough of them.

Obviously you didn't read what she said her doctor told her, which is the same thing I Was told:

Yes, there are LOTS of diffrent proteines in lots of diffrent foods, BUT! There are proteins ONLY in meat that your body NEEDS to stay healthy.

Hell, cars need oil to run properly! Let's just be "environmentaly friendly" and use vegetable or olive oil in the motor and it'll work JUST AS GOOD! is the argument that people are giving to promote vegetarinaism, and the sad truth is that if you stick the WRONG kind of oil into your car's motor, then it will start having trouble, then it will not work well, and then it will DIE before it was meant to.

But hey, you saved some trees and shit, so it's all good.

i went to a dietician for a long while- and i think she was a vegetarian herself. it's not jsut about what good foods to eat, you still have to eat them with certain other foods in order to absorb the nutrients from them. (i was vegan for a long time, and then just vegetarian- now i'm just kosher- *lol*)

there's people who eat meat regularly who are always sick. doctor was maybe just too lazy to really look into why she's really sick.

but i don't negate the fact that peoples bodies have different metabolisms or whatever and maybe some people need meat more than other in order to be top shape

i think humans need meat to survive
i mean.. by all means be a vegan/vegetarian if you want...
but i really think that there are proteins that cannot be found in anything but meat
ive taken enough biology courses to know that there ARE proteins that can ONLY be found in meat... i was also told that they werent the most essential of proteins.. but thats besides the point... i wouldnt chance it
we survived on meat for thousands of years... why fix whats not broken?

....diversity consumption is key to healthy living.

sarah has a point there; with all those hormones and genetic aberation to animals and vegetable foodstuff, one has to be careful.

i love tuna but there are amount of mercury in them and i care about other fish & mammals ( dolphin) being caught in those huge ass ocean nets. Japan Fishing Industry is the worse in raping our ocean floors.

There's mercury in every fish now, it's in the water. It would take eating 7 meals of fish a day for your whole LIFE before you'd start to get any mild discomfort, let alone die from it. Of course, no one ever mentions this, they just say that "look, fish have mercury! Your gonna die eating the poor inocent fish!" Which is just more bullshit propaganda from people hugging trees.
