 Coolness: 93295 | The first party I ever went to was this underground party at college deMaisonneuve in november '94, and I can tell you that it was totally different from the parties I went to in '95. The parties I went to in '95 were pretty different then the ones I went to in '96... and so on, and so on, only to say that I've seen the Montreal scene(both above and underground) transition through a lot of things, and granted the scene is acting pretty dead right now; if you have any interest whatsoever left in good music, good times & wikid vibes, I would venture to speculate that there are still "some" people in this city who are trying to make a difference.
Instead of arguing over speculations, y'all should be giving props to some of those people, aswell as supporting their events...nyways, just my opinion. I feel like if you've only been partying since '99 and are already jaded, that should be an indication of something... |

Man it might be that you're talking about a selected few ppl from ravewave or people that you know, but 95% of peeps that i'we been growing up and raving with from the last 2 generations (since 1998-1999) listened to more or less everything.. more of them considered themselves to be punk/ska/skater type rather than a "raver" coz like it or not.. how can somebody be a raver on a monday night, stuck at home, listening to grim skunk or NOFX, planet smashers, K.R.S one,... , just to name few You can be a raver when you're at a rave, but the moment you step out, you're just part of the mainstream like anyone else... unless you have other things in life that keep you close to the underground part of Montreal (punk shows, underground hiphop shows, ska shows, graff, ...) Munching pills, doing stupid retarded drugs during the week, while listening to ANY sort of electronic music, doesn't make you a raver at all.. it makes you a druggie that listens to electronic music.. POINT, even if you did attend a couple of raves the story ends there. So all this crap "ravers this, ravers that" is bullshit.. it's just an excuse for some to say that they belong to a group of people that stays up late on the weekends and go to parties. Some do drugs some don't, some go for the music some don't, some have been going to parties for years.. for some it's their 1st and probably last party. So you see, a "raver" is just a vague word that can be applied to everyone if you have a good immagination. I consider it more a product of the media.. just like "breakdancing". Before breakin' or also known as b-boyin' became mainstream, nobody used the words breakdancer and breakdance. And just as the commercial hype about it dissapeared, so did the word that came along.. a true b-boy will stay a b-boy.. not a breakdancer Now one more thing... do mainstream raves count as raves or just as big afterhour commercial parties? You gotta take that into consideration too, coz if the answer is yes (no matter how you dislike them) then i doubt you'll find 2 people in there who listen to happy hardcore or any techno at all, besides at that specific event. You'll most likely find people that listen to songs that we hear on radio 24/24 So yeah.. everything IS going to shit: the human kind fucked up BIG time The punk scene isn't what it was.. but then again i grew out of it... doesn't mean that i don't listen to punk often, does that make me a PUNK? The hip-hop scene is turning to shit too. Useless graffiti beefs are getting more and more violent. I had a friend beaten up while going out of saphire the week before underpressure... but what can you do.. most of ppl on the 1st floor of saphire are in fact writers *gasp* and if you're not avare sometimes writing 2 letters on a wall can cost you a pen in the neck.. literally! People are dressing ridiculous, some people besides loe pesci, shades of culture, and a few other groups are nowhere to be found, people mistake HIP-HOP and RAP all the fucking time. And even if i listen to eminem just once in my life.. does that make me a THUG or HIP-HOP? Drop the labels and drop the prejudice about people.. the time has come for all of us to unite coz the scenes have been hating each other for waaaaaaaay too long. Don't forget that far down the line, music was supposed to be pleasant and make us feel good inside and express our emotions... why do you let it be something that divides us instead of uniting and making it into something new? SOmething everyone will enjoy.. Associating clothes with music is just plain stupid. Just because I wear a certain type of pants or whatever doesn't really make me into a [INSERT LABEL HERE], it just means that it's fucking cold outside, and that i want to cover my fureakin' body... it doesn't make me a PUNK, or a RAVER, or a THUG, or a B-BOY, or a WRITER, or a GOTH, or a METALHEAD, or a JUNGALIST, it just makes me HUMAN |

but yeah, my post was just a general view of things i've noticed over a long period of time, when people tell me, "Oh yeah, I'm really into electronic music (being general here), but i like to keep my tastes open." when i ask most of these people about something hip-hop related.."oh no, i don't like rap" that is fucking stupid, i want to put my shoe in their mouths.. with hop-hop heads, and i use the term loosely, like throing a hotdog downa hallway kinda loosely, cause i really mean, montreal radio dominated hip-hop heads, which is 85% of all montreal hip-hop listeners...they refuse everything, without any knowledge of or wanting any knowledge of, and thats just retarded to me, cause then...and this DOES go for both, they shit on music they don't even know about, and that like walking in to a brick wall to me...stupid hip-hop listeners hate on hip-hop the hardest too, weeeeeell, the metalheads do it reall good too... |
