that was actually better than most North American Pop xD

at least they mixed rock, trance, house, and rap! not incredibly original, but still more enjoyable than Bieber or Kanye West ...

That's yesterday's news, man! Today, it's all about the new speed dub trend coming from the supervised injection sites of Tokyo where these young revolutionary minds gather for injecting heroin and for inspiration.

Actually, if this was real, it would probably be an historic landmark in music. However, the greatest news from Japan are still the Japanoise thing. Boring.

Actually, some Japanese techno from the past 4 or 5 years have been artsy enough to be in a style box of its own, yet the style didn't get a name for itself. It's slow, sometimes melodic and dubby.

Like that

that's actually pretty decent .. sounds like minimal-tech with a little more emphasis on the bass .. (or 'dubby' like you say)

What about speedstep ? 180bpm dubstep. That would be awes...

No wait. That's Drum&Bass. Fuuuuuu.... Heh. In fact it's Dancehall D&B if I'm not mistaken. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. :)

yup... you're wrong...

dubstep at dnb speed is either drumstep:

or on the not clowny side... you got what certain people refer to as autonomic...
[videp]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzfTC8GQhIQ[/video]

pretty much anything else you'd just call half-step dnb... and there's some pretty wicked stuff being made coming out of hospital's sister label, med school

fast dancehall? errr... I guess that'd be soca? or just dnb with dancehall samples...

I didn't know the lyrics to the tune were aimed at gays... my jamaican patois being relatively limited... I probably wouldn't have posted it had I known... although I can't really think of any other dancehall dnb tune.

I did do some research a while back on lyric meanings of the tunes I play and barred a couple of them out of my playlist for this very reason though... I think i probably played duppy man like twice and that was before I even knew that some jamaican music had strong homophobic values. And I was pretty sad to learn that at the time. fuck homophobia... in the ass

Chase and Status didn't know, either, and got a ton of flack for it on DOA, that's why they made a VIP that takes out all the "Slew dem" and "A dead man dem, duppy man dem" lyrics, and just use the words "duppy man" in the VIP.

From Neuromancer , a sci-fi novel from the 80's by W. Gibson:

''His gloved hand slapped a panel and the bass-heavy rocksteady of Zion dub came pulsing from the tug's speakers'' ...

Funny how Gibson wasn't too far from the truth ... ;)

Music has definitely put more and more accent on bass, 'specially as production value increased, over the last 30 years - but mostly in the last 10.

I'd say the future of music is some style that's pretty much only bass, except that without the other frequencies, humans cannot fully immerse themselves in the sounds.

On that note, as humans evolve (if we get the chance before we're all screwed xD ) perhaps their hearing will evolve, and maybe as we are able to hear/distinguish other frequencies (in the much higher and very low range) that would require producers and musicians to explore those other notes and ranges, maybe even necessitate the creation new instruments, programs, sound-systems, and styles ... (but now i'm getting into the distant future xD )

you know i don't think we can predict what's gonna be big in the future...

i'll explain...

back in 2005 if you had asked people what would be big 2-3 years from then you would have got a bunch of answers, if you had asked me I would have predicted that it would be ghettotech, the funny thing is that I and most everyone else were wrong, no one thought it would be some obscure genre from england (dubstep) that would dominate everything between 2007-2011...nobody got it right, literally, no one...

so i don't think we have predictive powers that are very good...

I will make one prediction, I think that the next big thing is going to come out of somewhere unusual...by that I mean not the States, not the UK and not Europe...somewhere else...who knows, maybe Brazil, or Japan, or Russia... but deff somewhere different...
I'm feeling surly right now..

well... juke spread out quite a bit in the past two years... and it's sort of in the same family as ghettotech... it ain't exactly next big thing material but it hasn't disapeared...

next big thing is banjo
