No offense but I think you guys are wayyy off. First off those aren't zeta presets they're moog voyager lines layered to create the thick chords. His kick doesn't necessarily duck the bass all the time and in all his tracks either, rather he seems to stick to the progressive formula of having the kick take care of the sub frequencies and the bass 60hz and up. If you want to really point out which technique made him famous it would definitely be phrasing, the way he has many sounds in one part which call and respond to each other. Skrillex abuses this technique too. It's really easy to point at the mainstream and talk shit. Is Daft Punk crap too? I wouldn't say their sound is any more complex then deadmau5'. |

DM's stuff sounds like it'd be be bangin' on a big club sound-system, but that doesn't make it any less generic than all the other techno that exists. You can listen to a thousand artists of any given style and still have your favorite - even if it's technically all the same shit - which might be different than your friend's favorite band of the same style ... why? who knows, there are dozens of elements that go into deciding preferences, and you have a right to enjoy one artist more than another - perhaps it's the notes they use, the time/place you were in when you frst heard it, the lyrics, the fact that others like it and you're gullible, or you simply like the artist's chosen sounds for whatever reason, etc. If you like this kind of stuff, good for you, personally I find it uninteresting, though very well produced, and alot of the melodies are just too cheesy for me. Sounds like Daft Punk making car commercials, but you shouldn't be affected by my opinion .. it's not like I tell ppl that if they don't like punk rock then they don't know good music ... That's the beatuy of music, you can love it or hate it, or be neutral about it, and it doesn't matter. It's not like religion where a war can start when opinions clash. (Well, maybe a Flame War :p ) Nonetheless, punching someone for vocalizing their distaste of your music is just as weak as criticizing a DJ to his face while he's playing. Make a friendly suggestion, use some tact. In turn the criticzed party can kindly suggest to the critic that he go fuck himself. |

If I were that dj in Brisbane I would have probably blown a fuse too, maybe not hit him which is a bit over the top, but I would have told him take a hike. Then if he swung at me I would have kicked him in the balls and hung him from the dj booth with a sign saying "This is what happens to cunts in the dj booth". And if Neuromyth tried to intevene I'd just karate chop him in the neck and knock him out cold and use him as a stepping stool for the special request people |

Reread my post, I was using Daft Punk as an example as to why electronic music doesn't need to be complex to be good. People were bitching saying he was using zeta presets and shit, thus implying he was a bad or lazy producer.
