It's not glamorous, it's not even fun, unless you are ridiculously wealthy you got to do it. So what are some of your strategies to keep yourself out of the red and floating.

Don't order food in. That's what always fucking does me in.. I get lazy, I don't want to make anything but I'm hungry, and it happens I've got a 24h place that delivers from 11am to 5am about a 10 minute walk away..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

hey i take care of the budget of our family and im pretty good at it..

even when you have tones of $ you need to have a budget,,,

how many time i saw people doing a 200 000/year but still seems broke, in debt or with no money on the side or in the 401k...

i think it's important to think now about the old days...

here some tricks hope it will help...

1- sometimes it worth it to have an accountant.. mine makes me save tone of money each year during the taxes period... and if you have a consultant type of work think about the taxes all year long because at the end you need to pay it! arrrg

2- set up a bank account with 3 or 4 accounts. one can be for the bills, one for the fun, one for the travels and one for side money.. try to start a 401k or something like that..

3- my best trick is once you set a spending amount for "the fun" you take it out and pay only in cash.DO NOT USE YOUR CARD. like when you go out in a bar if you set up 50$ take it in paper cash and do not bring ur cc or debit card!

4- ONLY BUY WHAT U CAN AFFORD CASH. (well beside a house or a car, for sure..)DO NOT USE CREDIT. (well use a cc only to built up a nice score but do not use it for anything else really..)

5- set up realistic goals. if you only can afford 30$/week on the side well its better than nothing and at the end of year you will have enough for something nice or a travel etc..

6- frugality. personally i would have the means to dress to impress but that doesn't cut it with me so i don't dress expensively. I have difficulty with great restaurants, it is really my sin and so expensive i try to not go over the top with it...

7- cook at home. make big recipes, froze them etc... if you live alone that can be lil boring but maybe you have friends who would pitch in and you cook all day and at the end you all have meals for the week!

8- buy cheap stuff.. maybe not food.. but like if there a loreal shampoo at 5$ and the suave is at 99 cents well nobody will make the difference and ur hair will still be clean..ha!

9- weed is expensive so is all bad habits.. so try to cut it out if you can. that really is going to make a difference..

10- try to find activities that are free or inexpensive..

finish school, or go back. it's the best investment you can make for the future because not only will your potential wage go higher but you'll be more reasonable in general....

like if you can train yourself to actually show up to class and study when you need to and rest when you need to then you'll be able to do those things in real life too...

when i want to save up some cash, i treat it like a bill. for example i will take 50$ (or whatever amount) for each paycheck that i will automatically put in an account as soon as i get it, and then i consider it GONE. otherwise, if i wait to have leftover money to save it up, it will never happen lol
I'm feeling loss of magic :( right now..

Right now I'm in my first year of undergrad at McGill, and my budget (or lack thereof) is definitely the largest source of stress in my life. I'm basically living off of government loans, the money I saved up working this past summer, and the money I begrudgingly lend from my parents. I've always been a fiscally responsible person, so saving money wasn't an issue when I was younger. Strategies I'm currently using to save money include:

- Because I have a meal plan with McGill (mandatory and exorbitantly priced), I try to never buy other food.
- If I want to buy something that's pretty valuable, I look it up online, find the cheapest model that I feel will fit my needs, and try to find it for cheap on eBay. I don't tend to buy anything expensive at physical stores.
- I use Wal-Mart for basic necessities. Yeah, you can look down on it if you want, but as a dirt-poor student, it's my best option.
- I avoid drinking alcohol. That's a huge cash-saver in and of itself.
- My cell phone use is as basic as it gets.
