| It's call publicity... You wanna be popular then let people download your music... If you don't want your music to be distributed by people then you can distribute it yourself. No one will release something which is available already... Get people to sign up on your site to download the torrent for free, put the torrent up yourself and then you can email all the people who download your music... |

i don't know how many label people you deal with / talk to on a daily basis, but when a track is solid, i can get released on a few different CD's / releases (usually from the same label + a different label)..
As for publicity, well, that's what websites and blogs are for, along with Dj's and DJ sets... those all help artists get there music out there. Making or directing people to torrent site will create a bad habit (like smoking) and people will then not feel the need to go back out and actually spend money on a product, no matter how good it is. why should we educate people to start with torrent sites yet alone tell artists that "hey man, if you put all your music on torrents it will help you become big, so that once you get big people will continue getting your music from the same place they got it the first time they heard you... ohh wait, that won't work..."
If you wanna get "big" in a good, healthy fashion, get a crew of your friends to BUY your album on a site like "Beatport" and make sure you hit the charts.
I mean, it's easier to sell something that has / had value in the past, rather than to convince someone to purchase music they can already get for free.. no ? |
