And Jack Layton is a nice one! So nice that he doesn't deserve to be wrapped up with the same rep every other politician in the senate has. Why he became a politician we'll never know, but all I know is NOBODY votes for the nice guy. Everyone is a fuckin sheep believing ANYTHING thats put in front of them. From Dion to Duceppe, they all suckle at the power tit. It's disgusting.

Politicians are like little Jesses; they all wanna steal from you so they don't have to lift a finger or work a day in their FUCKING LIVES. But unlike Jesse, they have a business front called Politics.

End of rant.

Voting doesn't work. Opposing parties with different ideas on how to run the country getting a chance every 3/4/whatever years to run things THEIR way?

Come on, think about it for a second; 4 years a whole country going in one direction, then magicaly, overnight, a new governing party can completely flip around what's been building up? Momentum isn't just something in physics, it applies to everything. When a dam breaks, it's impossible to stop the water, and stupid to even try. The same applies to how a country is run; it takes WAY more than however many years between elections for any "real" changes to be made, and a country wouldn't be stupid enough to be ruled in a haphazard, leaf-in-the-wind manner like that.

All that changing whoever is in office does, is changes the puppet. There is no one person running anything, much like Bush is not the end-all word in what happens in the US; he's just the current face of the government. All switching "leaders" does is change the face of the person fucking you up the ass in the name of the organisation that's telling him how to do it.

And if (*IF*) voting actually DID work, ballots were ACTUALLY counted, and people COULD actually chose how their country is run, then where would we be stuck?

Here's a video I posted in the other thread on the US elections:

Yes, this is US citizens and has to do with the US elections. So, what's the point of me posting this video?

Because THIS is the kind of person you're looking at that votes. This is the face of a large majority of the population of ANY coutry; stupid, gullible, un-educated, bigoted assholes who want their way, no matter the cost.

If voting DID actually work, then the only people that should be allowed to vote are people who KNOW politics, who KNOW how to run a country, what it takes to balance an economy, what it takes to make a budget, people who have studied foreign cultures for foreign relations, etc.. In other words, people who actually KNOW what the fuck running a country is about should be making the choices, and NOT the "every-day", you and me, joe six-pack that would go out and vote based on a speech and a second-hand "report" of how they want to change things, without actually having the brain it would take to understand what it is the people are actually proposing and how it will actually affect them.

Which leads me back to my original point, in that that is already what's going on. How a country is run is NOT decided by the every-day comon-folk, it's decided by people who actually understand politics and how to run a country, not gullible idiots who think that putting an X on a piece of paper does anything but waste time.

Elections are there for the sole purpose of making you THINK you're doing something to affect the direction the country is going in, but really your vote is about as effective and useless as yelling at the players of a hockey team from your living-room while watching the game; you are NOT qualified to run a country, or to even BEGIN to understand HOW a country is run, what makes you think your oppinion is going to matter in deciding the fate of millions of people and billions of dollars?

" what makes you think your oppinion is going to matter in deciding the fate of millions of people and billions of dollars? "

Great question Fred, and the answer is simple. Where do you think the government gets those billions of dollars? Im just gunna call it like it is, if people want to totally lose faith in all systems, then so be it. But frankly, you can actually use some logic to deduce that governments needs to keep people happy otherwise the economy and their budgets go down the tubes. Im not going to pretend that they don't lie to us along the way, but their hands are tied on some things, and I would wager that elections are one of them. I am also not saying that fixes do not occur, as I am sure they do, however, the system itself is in place for a reason, and playing pretend decision time is probably not the reason.

No one can honnestly believe that the government and the respective parties would spend hundreds of millions of dollars just to fool the population into thinking they could make a difference with an election. Im sorry, but there thousands of alternatives that could accomplish that feat at less than half the price tag; If government is like a business, name 1 business that would spend tons more than it needs to just to accomplish something useless which guarantees nothing? Let me answer that question, simply put, none, because if a company backed decision making like that, they would not be in business very long.

What this actually sounds like to me is peoples general loathing of the system, which I completely understand. I sympathise with all those who get frustrated or feel powerless, but history proves that voting has worked and can work. Giving up all faith in the system makes life seem even more pointless and in the end actually gives you less power than you have/deserve. I have faith in certain systems, not because they work all the time or because they are always honnest and forthwright, but more because I chose not to give it up.

We as citizens in the 21rst century have already given up enough rights and rarely chose to excercise the ones we still supposedly have, so it is imho very important to play an active role in our countries future, especially considering whats at stake in these strange times...

vince, you're out of your mind. the bloc isn't even a real federal party since it cannot have a majority government under any circumstances. telling people they're stupid for not voting for the douchebag party that has no national interests is retarded. The bloc serves only to be a selfish provincial party that's acting at a federal level.

If they counted all the votes individually our votes would actually count. But they don't. We need a proportional representation system. Ridings would be converted into municipal representational votes (as in councils for each riding) and your every single vote would be factored into a count that determines who gets in federally. We should not be voting for MPP's at the same time that we're voting for the prime minister, that shit is just wack! In case you're all wondering, here's what the results would have been: [ www.fairvote.ca ]

Read em and weep. Conservatives still win but by a slim 20 seats, the libs have 80 seats, NDP 57, and the Bloc stays in Quebec as a lousy provincial party that has no business in federal elections except to spoil the Quebecois vote and leave this province even more marginalized in the end.

Why do they "have to keep us happy" to make their money? You need food, you need electricity, you need shelter, clothing, transportation.. You gonna start living like a caveman and hunt/grow your own food? And if you would, would everyone else? Who is honestly going to stop buying EVERYTHING and make them not get taxes? You're gonna need to stop working, too, since your pay gets taxed..

And if you don't pay taxes, well, hey, tax evasion is a crime!

The only reason they keep us/the majority happy, is so that we stay civil and docile.. But how many are happy, really? And, more importantly, how many actually have the stones to do something truly revolutionary, and to actually go out and make a difference?

What about the olympics? How about sports in general? Do you NEED a team of 20 million dollar a year players to have a decent game? And just like the elections, sports are a distraction to make people forget what's really going on, and get them excited about something, which keeps them docile and sitting infront of their TVs watching payed commercials or in the arenas drinking 8$/cup beers.

Exactly. And last i checked, you guys all chose quebec to live in. if you want to rant about all your "canada" pride, move to alberta and become almost as american as you can. if not, stop being a hypocrite and vote for your province's federal party and prevent all those other bums from sending OUR money to THEIR country !!!

How can you attribute the bloc to harper not being in power? People voted for the bloc because they didn't want to vote for harper, had the bloc not been there, does that suddenly change their desire to not vote conservative? no, they would have voted for a different party. attributing this as a success and saying we should thank the bloc is garbage, they aren't a legitimate federal party in the first place, so no, i wont thank them, they're a bullshit separatist party that have openly stated this.

Quebec is not a country, it is a province of a much larger country. without canada, quebec's economy would disintegrate and we'd all be on welfare.
