I know I'm a little behind on the topic, and I haven't read anything past this post. But I must say that if you go to any other country -including France- that everyone learns English. It's the international business language, and even though immigrants should learn the native language of the land in which they're residing, English is being taught, and spoken everywhere. |

| Didnt read much more after DrN's comments after my post. I am not xenophobic at all, my comment may have been misinterpreted. I just dont care, I have been asked "what was that all about" by anglos many times and I always reply very politely.
I just dont think it's that big of a deal and I feel the language battle is a thing of the past that we should bury. Montreal is a city which has been a multicultural hub for decades and we are blessed for it. It would be a shame to revert to xenophobia and we would close ourselves to all of these rich cultures and foods, not to mention women *wink* |

| Being bilingual, I would feel a bit left out not being able to understand english, honestly.
Most hardcore french language defenders I know are either too lazy to learn english or are just afraid of it because they can't understand it. So like many people, they fear the unknown instead of trying to learn about it. It's unsettling and that's understandable but its the open-mindedness that saddens me.
I mean, honestly, this is the 21st century, we are passed that " english invaders " bullshit about turning québécois into english people, they have better things to do than convert us to their language anyway.
I also feel sad for the army of Laval wiggers who are into hip-hop and don't understand a damn word of what's being said and yet, just the act of listening to it seems " gangsta " enough for them. Heh. |
