quebec is so relax... it's not like my new country.. here i never smoke outside.. they don't joke with that.. and in mtl i have a big 'run' for few years and i never get even nervous.. i have so many story who proove that point!! like this time...like 7 years ago...i was working in a renovation company.. after our shift, me and my partner took the compagny truck and decide to roll a fucking huge blunt.. we were blasting bob in the speakers(well very typicall...) and smoking windows open.. at the red light i look by my window and blow all my smoke in the window of a cop car who was stop beside us.. i smile to them, they smile to me: end of the fucking boring story. serious it's so easy finding drugs...how can u really start a thread for that??? |

Sorry to burst your bubble but walking around without identification is technically illegal. Police have the right to ask for identification for no reason whatsoever. They also have the right to detain you for as long as it takes (or up to 24 hours if they aren't pressing charges) until someone else (usually a legally recognized guarantor) can identify you if you dont have a piece of identification on your person. |

It's not illegal in quebec. police officers in quebec do not have the right to ask you for proof of identification if you are in a public place. You can identify yourself with a false name and false address provided that no one by that name actually lives at that address. There's no bubble to burst. I have done this many many times in Quebec. It pays to know your rights! It is not illegal to walk around without "identification". That is the hallmark of a police state, and Quebec is not a police state. Here are the citations in Quebec / Canadian law that deal with self-identification: [ www.theglobeandmail.com ] "As it is now, Canadians do not have to identify themselves to police unless they are arrested or engaged in a licensed activity such as driving." This in response to Bill C-55 which would allow the RCMP to obtain passenger lists from airlines. Which is currently illegal. From a Canadian Government website discussing Bill C-17. [ www.parl.gc.ca ] E.HTM "As I'm sure you know, in Canada we are not required to identify ourselves to the police as we go about our normal law-abiding business. Unless we are being either arrested or carrying out a licensed activity such as driving, we are not even required to carry ID, let alone to identify ourselves to the police."
