Okay people, lets get a couple of things straight..

-Private insurance changes how much money you end up paying, but you still have to see the same doctors and wait the same amount of time as everyone else unless you wanna see a private doctor which is never covered.

-It is impossible to wait 6 years for a blood test.. I had 3 bloodtests in the last 5 years and it never took me longer than a month to get one. Each persons blood test only takes 5 mins to do although there are usually a lot of people in front of you and they make you wait 2 hours.

Actually, all you have to do is have a doctors note saying you need one and at some hospitals you can just bring the note with no appointment and they will do it right away.

Maybe it's because I've never been overly sick (other than asthma attacks when i was younger), but I've never had a problem with our healthcare system..

I'm very happy that I don't have to plunk down $500 every time I visit the hospital..
I'm feeling anal right now..

It would be great if doctors took your problems seriously when you actually have one. The only hospital that seems to actually give a shit about it's patients is the Children's. I swear, the doctor I went to see for my IBS was fucking useless. For one, it took me 2 months to get an appointment for a problem that was causing me such severe pain that I went to the ER 3 times because I thought I was dying. I spent less than 10 minutes in his office, he didn't preform any of the tests your actually supposed to do to determin if a person has IBS or not, just told me "It sounds like IBS, eat more fiber and avoid stress. It isn't really as bad as you're making it out to be, just live your life like normal." and then gave me a prescription for some anti-spasm/painkillers.

I think, for one, that pain that women who've had twins by cesarian say was easier to deal with than the pain of their IBS, means that it just might affect your life a weee bit. He did fuck-all to tell me about the diffrent kinds of fiber in food and in what order I had to eat things, what causes the pain and cramping abd bloating, what I should and shouldn't eat.. NOTHING. The whole time I was in, he just seemed anoyed that I was taking up his precious time and showed absolutely no interest in actually helping.

I think our health care system is a crisis, it always takes me so long to make an appointment for anything that by the time I see someone for whatever's wrong I'm already half dead and getting a new doctor is next to impossible because no one takes new patients. If you have a real serious problem with somehting though, there is always a such thing as a bump-up where they will put you to the front of the list right away. If you wait long enough you'll always get something but there is sometimes(very often) a problem that doctors are rushed and don't give a shit.

Whatever the case, I don't think the solution is privatisation. Privatisation means putting the business in the hands of people with a solely monetary goal. The government's interest may be in money as well but they get a clear financial benefit from good health in other sectors so they can balance the budget accordingly. They aren't required to make profit from the medical industry within the medical industry itself, they don't have to increase the cost of medication by 30% just because they made 30% less sales. It also means that if you're poor you aren't getting treated. A lot of us might think we're well off until we get our bill for the 100,000$ surgery we need to live. It would probably clear out the waiting room though, and probably even encourage doctors to care more since their salary will depend more on each individual patient instead of a flat rate, but that is just kind of masking the problem since there is a reason the waiting rooms are crowded and the doctors are rushed - being that poor people have health problems too and if all those poor people could afford to be in the waiting room with you they would be. So all that solutions does is blacks a large majority of the population out.

The main problem with a private healthcare system is that doctors working in private practices will have the freedom to charge whatever they want to patients which discriminates against most of the population which, as I'm sure you're all aware, lives below the poverty line. As a result only the wealthy will be able to afford proper, or as some would imply better treatment because there would be a shortage of skilled doctors in the public system. I'm not sure if it's necessarily right to say that any doctor who chooses to provide private healthcare is being greedy cause they're providing services which are high in demand and low in availability but it's definitely immoral and discriminatory for them to omit treating the poor and to lower service availability further for the majority of the population who can't afford to pay unregulated medical costs.
I'm feeling you up right now..

I think our system fucking sucks, it's BARELY better than nothing. We pay taxes out our asses to support this system and it's not fucking working. I can NOT find a doctor, period, I've tried and they ALL say they aren't taking new people. CLSC are like the only option that seem to work but it's hella depressing being there.
BTW Quebec has the absolute most inefficient, costly and bloated gov. workforce in the world. They use 5000 people to do the job that 500 could do and all of them are unioned, paid exhorbant amounts and given employee packages most of us would deem unfair.
Honestly, in some ways, Quebec FUCKING sucks...
