Or else... Get a life ;)

Not good.

I second what Le D said.

For the most part, people go to raves because of the music, and because of the environment. It's a good alternative to other meat-market atmospheres. The drugs and all that ... All in all the % of people 'under the influence', by alcohol or drugs, is probably equal or even lower in the rave scene than your standard bar scene.

People pay way too much attention to the drugs thing.
I'm feeling harder dec 16th right now..

@ ouje...

the difference is thousands 's of watts, thousands of ppl, lighting rigs, info lines, plane tickets, drug money, warehouses, smart bars (without commercial canned goods) and the inability for police to obtain the proper search warrants for the party to get busted.

@ juju

i like yer attitude from yer last post!!
even though i might appear all jaded and bitter.
i still like to think that the party doesn't start till i get there.

One thing I've noticed is that a lof of ravers where unpopular in school, or never truly enjoyed a good relationship with their parents. Raves, in a way, give these people the affection they couldn't get as a child. For someone who never really felt loved, a big party where everyone is friendly is paradise. I speak from personnal experience, and from what I've heard other ravers say.

Ironicaly, a big part of this feeling dissapearing does have something to do with drugs. A few years ago, people where taking Ecstasy at raves. Nowadays, everyone is into speed. While E made people friendly and open minded, speed just makes them dance. That's why the vibe just isn't as good, but people always want their music as hard and fast as possible.

Raves are obviously not dead, just check the calendar...the problem is the word itself, "rave"...I call my parties "events", it's alot classier...people just say "but it's a rave, duh", but I disagree, I prefer "all night electronic music events", cut it down to "ANEME" if you want, but then the same prolem will arise in the future...once we labled ourselves ravers, our downfall began (once you're seen and observed, you are no longer free, nor free of judgement)...But the difference between old raves a new ones is really the effect that society has on our culture, the simple fact that it's really hard to put something together these days, in North America anyway ('cause of laws, parents, christians -and other religious fanatics-, and government)...plus, the attendance has been cut down drastically, partly 'cause people have a hard time toughing out 10 hours of partying week after week, and the drug consumption has a serious effect (I rave sober 90% of the time, therefore I can still continue without consequence)...I got into the scene through insomnia, and the fact that these were the only shows that I could stay at all night, without having to worry about night busses etc... I love the night, and raves are for us creatures of the night, alot of people just pass through for the experience, which is a good one, but it takes away the seriousness of the scene...but, finally, it comes down to fact that the rave scene is no dofferent than any other scene, it's exactly the same, the only difference is the music, which is what is supposed to be the important factor, but unfortuanately, music tends to take the back seat (while drugs ride shotgun, and the search for popularity is driving)... ...if you like the rave scene, stop calling it the rave scene and just enjoy yourself while you can... ...

(by the way, I agree with just about everything said thus far, even if there are paradoxes)...

I have so much more to say, but... ... ...

i think it depends on your own perception...i don't see these events as raves, so i don't feel like a loser, i feel like someone who has an interest among many other interests...and nothing ever really goes out of style, sometimes it just takes a rest, 'cause people have no more original ideas, so shit always comes back...

...and only a raver would want to be p.c. ... .. .(lol)

If not being a loser is doing stuffs just because it's "in style", then yah, I'm a loser.

I don't care about what's in or what's out. I do stuffs because I like'em.
I won't let trends stop me from enjoying electronic music and going to hyperspace!
For me, raves are not dead. I still trip at parties (though it would be fun if there were other peeps who'd trip too). But I'd like more acid/hardtech/acid house in raves lol ;)

Raves always were about having fun without worries. Who cares if some people think we're losers. The beauty of it all is that you don't get judged whatever you do (in theory). Of course, this isn't always the case, but the general vibe at good parties is one of acceptance. It's this same acceptance we must keep alive.

The music is pretty different. The vibe tends to be alike. Might be a little bit more of a "meat market" in afterhours, but overall I've met as much cool people in raves as in clubs. I've also met ass holes and idiots in both.

gosh... seriously we should stop analysing the scene and comparing it to what it was before... I got into the rave scene because I liked the music, the people, the vibe. Never asked myself how the scene was going and i was already helping people promote in every way that i could... For the longest time I acctually thought the rave scene was getting bigger... and honestly, I cant say for sure that it isnt...

anyways, all i'm trying to say is, if you dont like the scene then fuck off, if you like the scene, give it a kick in the ass so that it gets even better, if you like the scene the way it was before, well do old school shit like this crazy guy right here (le_D)

I'm just so extremmely tired of hearing all the time that raves are dead... dead? how the fuck could raves be dead? I went to one last week for fucks sake! tell me its dead when this web site become completely useless to the point of closing down (or changing its name?). I just cant beleive that people inside the scene seem to spend so much time arguing about how blah blah blah the scene over there or back then is sooo much better than the scene here...

wtv my two, very emo, cents
I'm feeling a storm brewing right now..
