i don't think this guy has even been to real montreal rave, or even a big event...

judging our "rave scene" by going to house/ loft partys is like judging our profesional boxing scene by watching elementary school kids fight in the playground.

soul trey... yer post is a crock of shit too... no offence...

but the true problem with montreals "rave dance community" is that there are still crack heads out there who still think there is a "rave dance community" and try to pawn off crappy house partys as raves.

ain't nothing wrong with an all night rager... but i haven't seen a candy kid in years...

and quite frankly... i'd like to go a couple more without seeing one.

Sure!

TheGoods, what would you like to see?
Big ass huge venue filled with over-druged teens clothed like baby clowns?

I guess theres still a market for this,
All it needs is someone business minded, neat looking, very confident and most important loaded with cash.
Should be easy to rent industrial warehouse or dance hall.

But if this happen, would be a good occasion to burn the whole shit down with everybody inside so it never happens again ;)

No offence taken,

but how seriously should i take your post if yours is filled with preconceived judgments? If you think all ravers are candy kids crackheads, then it's sad assertion. Don't let your dislike of Candy Kids impaired your observations. You know there was a time when raves didn't have Candy Kids. And Candy Kids are just culturally descended from Club Kids of NYC club scene.

I refer to the "rave dance community" as to everything that encompass electronic music. If you don't think there is no such thing, then why are there events happening every weekend? If you know what "existential" means when i says it was going through a existential phase, then i don't think you would've made such a crude comment and criticism.

I should illustrate it further so you actually see what i mean. I throw a Breakbeat party, another guy throw a Techno party, yet a third guy is doing a DnB party, all on Saturday Night. Montreal is big enough so we have different tastes and talents to explore the different genre of music. However Montreal is not big enough to support each of those 3 parties. How many time you've been to a event, and said "wow dope music, good times, but where the fuck is everyone?" If you can't support it, it doesn't grow. If it doesn't grow, it becomes stagnant.

There isn't enough people to the numbers of events happening for promoters to make a tiny so they can reinvest it in the scene/future parties.

edit; for typo and added last paragraph

1. you missed my point about candy kids... i know they are not all crack heads... but what they are is incredibly out of style... deeming them uncool to hang out and party with.

2. refering to every thing that encompasses electronic music as the "rave dance comunity" makes ppl not want to listen to it all together... as the term "rave" has lost its underground value and now is instantly related to idiocy and substance abuse. what makes electronic music marketable is that its technology is "advanced" and futuristic where as the rave association makes it look like a rather primitive dinosaur.

3. why can't 3 partys with completly different music go down on the same night?
thats stupid man... if i like breaks do you expect me to be at a techno trance party when there isn't a breaks party a gwan? cuz i should "support"? fuck that shit... i'd rather piss off and go to a punk show or just pick my ass at home with a set of nail clippers...
gimme em what they fuckin' want if you want support.
don't go and support bullshit partys that make you not want to go out anymore.

DUH!!!

4. there is more than enough party peeps to go around... they just aren't as tone def and out of style as you would like them to be.

There is nothing wrong for small scenes to grow. It would be fun to see near 1 000 people jungle event in Montreal again.

Call me nostalgic, but your parties ain't all that. To be fair, I haven't been to a party that cost more than 20$ on the door, so maybe I gotta be rich to have a good time, but if it's not half assed decorations, it's too small venues. The party that broke the camels back was last night. What about having a breaks party in a room only marginally bigger than my apartment sounded like a good idea? Isn't a rave about dancing? I surely didn't see a whole lot of that in this room with rounded shoulders. You've got great beats and talented musicians all over the place in this city, but your scene needs work, big time. The parties I cut my teeth on were thrown in a city probably a third the size of this, and are still far and away more fun. I'm not saying it's been all bad, the jewel in the rough for me has been SAT. They throw a bitchen dance party.

So, Montreal, defend yourself! Is what I've seen so far an indication of what this scene has to offer? If so, it really seems like it's on some kind of "out swing." I wasn't here a year ago, maybe ya'll had a hay-day and now it's done...What say you?

who are you to say that ?

he's the average party goer thats who...

like who the fuck are you to say his opinion don't mean shit?

y'all should respect what he's gotta say yo...

he made his points very clear and backed em up too...

you guys are some of the most ignorant fucks alive...

why can't you just exept that 90% of the partys that have been going down since the turn of the century have been mear half assed attemps made by children who don't what a quality event should look like.

and soul trey... whats this "again" buisness about montreal having 1000 ppl at a jungle party?

that never happened dude...

there was partys that may have had jungle rooms that had 1000 peeps...

but i have personaly never seen 1000 ppl at an "exclusively" jungle party ever in montreal...

even in the late 90's the most i can remember is 5 or 600...

and belive me...

i've been to ALOT of jungle partys

To be fair, it's not that you have to be rich to have a good time and enjoy good quality parties, it's that no one is willing to gamble their money on kids and lose big time by getting their parties busted by cops...

So most of the big DJs, cool lighting, Phat Sound system and big parties got centralized at a Legaly established After Hours Club like Aria, Circus etc...where they've had 3 rooms of veriety in one night (hip Hop, Drum n Bass, House) etc...

It's not that the scenes are not happening, it's that they are happening in a much more organized way .
Also, it's happening Every Fucking week-end instead of once a month or 2.

And don't forget, Money is thight and everyone wants a peace of it when you're making some. specialy in a small city...
At least they're trying, ( even though sometimes sideway monkey business needs to happen to feed off those buttom feeders :) )

(I don't know what happened here but the words buttom feeders is not in my vocabulary nor would I call anyone that when back when we were younger, we were basically throwing parties for our own enjoyment and I was taking pics for free and helping out for fun so for sure there was no money to be made in this type of events nor would I know about how the legaly established places operated to speak on their behalf and use such a word....I have invested my personal money for events to help out artists but until Igloofest happened and places were established $20 for an event was all you needed to make to have fun once a month)
