you will not beat the system, no matter how hard you try. You can however strive to change the system, since that will have better results.

Your rebelious attitudes are just hurting the scene more, please go away...

it's not absolute knowledge, it's common sense.

The government looks at you like a bunch of drug using idiots who are a menace to society. And yet, here you are talking about pushing things even more underground, thus supporting the government's idea of the scene.

you're just a handful of kids trying to go against a system that has been built upon for almost 200 years, and you people want to take it down or circumvent it. All you are doing is making your lifes harder and with that blind arrogance you have, you don't even realize it.

I hope you people realize that, luckily for us, governments are open to change (even though they can sometimes be quite stubborn). I think it's time you people put your anger aside and start doing what I've been telling you do for weeks now. Start planning and organizing and demonstrating and dissenting.

I think that the REAL question should be "what to do with last minute/un-organized/too stoned to realize promoters that can't do their job right by finding a legal venue. People are bitching how cops are always busting parties and all, but what is always the No1 reason for a busted party... THE LOCATION. It's not the drugs, it's not the candy kids, it's not PLUR but the fucking venue. If a place was meant to be filled with X number of people and the promoter sells X+Y number of tickes, there is a big problem. It's easy to bitch about cops busting a party, but nobody's ever bitching at the promoter. Immagine that you find this sick ass venue, good location, not too expensive, lots of room BUT no fire extinguishers, no EXIT signs and 500 people inside and that capacity was only 200. Now, there are 3 possible situations:

1- If the cops come, it's gonna take seconds for them to bust the party because obviously fire and space limit regulations aren't respected. The crowd is gonna blame the cops.

2- This little 16 year old kid on E tries to light up his cigarette/joint/smoke ice, he drops the match/hallucinates that there are monsters attacking him and the only way to stop them is to set the place on fire/ or that he just accidentaly sets a decoration on fire.. just enough for the fire to catch on and spread: thus making ourselves ask 4 questions:

a- As promoters, the people who are in charge of the party, how many are really capable to handle a situation like this if it really did happen when even them are on drugs. When people start panicking you need to get everyone out safe and to do that, you need emergency exit signs but there's none in the venue. And since there's no fire exstinguishers every second counts.

b- What kind of immage will THAT give to the fire departement and the police who are *in theory* supposed to prevent such things.

c- What kind of immage will that give to raves? It's easy to say "this will never happen in montreal".. but if it didn't happen yet, it means that we were just lucky.

d- How will the people in charge feel when they find out that 30 people burned to death and that another 20 were killed by being run over the crowd that was panicking and just wanted to get the fuck out.

and the last possible situation:

3- By another stroke of luck, no major incident happens besides little Johnny hitting a person standing next to him with a glow stick, and that person being me, he gets his hand broken. And little Willma breaking her nail by tring to flush the toilet bowl.

So in conclusion, there would be lot less parties busted if some basic security rules were applied and if promoters and organizers had some basic logic. Last minute organization is the WORST thing you could ever do. There's no need for passwords on the internet because you need to give the password to everybody and eventually it WILL fall into the hands of the police. Having meet-up points is a good idea, except the cops will know about the meet-up points too since the adress will be on the infoline. And monkeys and midgets, tipsy you just deserve to have your both wrists and knee caps broken for saying such a dumb thing. Actually you should be lapidated to death by an angry candy mob for putting their life in danger.

That's it for NOW

first of all, i think we have it pretty good in MTL when compared to other major cities.

considering throwing parties, i think it's basic common sense. If you want to do an event big enough where you have to promote it to people you've never met, then license your venue, get security, etc. do it legit... then you can put the infolines and flyers everywhere and not worry

if you want to do an underground party, don't post anything on any websites, send e-mails to people that you know, tell them by word of mouth. maybe make a little flyer that you give to people, and that way nobody gets it that is sketch. it's as simple as that. if your party gets busted it will be for the same reasons as any old house party getting busted; noise complaints...

you have a good point eldar but if a cop(s) doesnt want a party to go on it doesnt matter how safe the venue is because there are alwas reasons that can be made...if you use paradise 2 for example and organized confusion...where as there were no real liable and creditable reasonaing behind why those venues were considered illigal by the polive/fire people. they can go to the extent of locks on doors, voltage of light bulbs and so forth and be real assholes about it...

if police want to be pricks they can be pricks... a venue is only save if the city has actualy permitted it like toronto for example, but unfortuetly were not like toronto we like to have our parties in different venues and not be stuck going to the opera house for every hulla...

and its exactly what cops want to do like withg level, how they started throughing parties in after hours... honestly i dont think it has anything to do with stoned promotors making bad decicisions...it has more to do with authoritative police officers...

...and alot of the time it has to do with noise complaints, :) eheh

I didn't say that it was THE reason but that it is one of the most used ones. For me cops are adult bullies, and a bullie always keeps on comming back.

Noah, I say modify ravewave's site to have a more secure login and deny access of outsiders that are not logged in trying to access the discussion board (thus new users must wait your authorization to activate their new account. however, outsiders may access the rest of the site without requiering to login first.

Just something that came to mind reading your original message.
