>This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter
that

>recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
>Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit,
>astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to

11 JULY 2005 – There seems to be an e-mail circulating about saying that Mars will be a spectacular sight, and the size of the full moon at the end of August. This seems to be a rehash of an e-mail from 2003 with the same erroneous information. I believe the original author(s) of that message meant to say that at some particular magnification in a telescope, Mars could appear the same size as the full Moon is to the naked eye.

So, to clear up the confusion, opposition this year is on 7 November at which point the size of Mars will be about 19.9 arcseconds. Note that closest approach will be on 30 October at which point Mars will have a diamter of about 20.2 arcseconds. The difference is due to the highly elliptical nature of Mars' orbit.

Read ? Who reads here, seriously ? LOL.

Yeah ok ok. Hoax. Got it. But at least it sounded somewhat convincing for once. None of that " you will have instant good luck if you send this to 500 friends " uninspired crap we usually get.

Useless lyric quote :

With my naked eye I saw the falling rain, Coming down on me
With my naked eye I saw, If I said it all I could see

Never thought it would be as big as the moon, that's just stupid. I'd be hittin a bunker if that was the case. But it is closer than it has or will be in a long time.
