If you all wait for a job to make you happy, you are gonna wait a long time...
Job isnt suppose to be happy funtime. And even if you had the dream job for you, you never know is your boss or your coworker will be dreamy too.
Hey! You can even have a shitty job like flipping burger but really enjoy it because your boss is uber nice.
Or if you know you want a big paycheck, you will do shitty work to get it. You dont want a boss? As Neoform said, get a your damn buissness.
But the thing is, job is only for surviving. Because we need money to survive.
Once this is done, what will really makes you happy in life is what is outside the job: your friends, family, lover, everything why you are working your ass off eveyday.
And if you really need to accomplish something biger, well do it outside the job, in your hobbies. And dont tell me you dont have because you work; if you have enough time to come chat on this forum, you have plenty of time on your hands to do something else.
I think you could all be very much happy when you'll stop looking for your hapiness in your workplace but outside it.

My two cents

What makes me hate work is the fact that my hard work often goes unnoticed or worse, becomes expected of me, raises the bar and becomes a new standard. And when that doesn't happen, you're expendable so most employers don't seem to give a flying fuck about you, your life and your entourage unless you get a job in a small family run business.

Personally, I don't care shit about the extra money I get from overtime, I just want people to respect that because I actually stayed longer to help out the company in this time of need. No, instead, they start asking for overtime every fucking day like it's expected of you since you've been doing in the past few weeks.

How about some " dude, you've helped out all week. No overtime for you tonight and take that last hour off. Don't worry, we'll be able to manage with the helping hand you lended so far " employer-to-employee dialogue ? I'm not asking for a fucking raise, just recognise the effort I'm putting into helping out.

As an employee, there is nothing that makes me happier than feel like I make a difference and I'm not just employee # 2563. I don't care to be dazzled by your bling-bling raises, flashy social advantages and opportunities of advancement bullshit. Make me feel like I'm not fucking expandable and a retarded preschool kid and and I'll be happy, no matter what job I'm doing.

It's like a relationship : you can't BUY your significant other's love, impress them with a trip here and there and by buying a huge house with fancy computer-controlled environment, it's a question of RESPECT, to respect that person the way they respect you. It's hard, it's not easy but at least FUCKING TRY.

That's my quarrel with 95% of employers out there today. They don't even brush the idea that if it wasn't for all the little busy bees at the bottom of the ladder, you wouldn't be driving your rich fatass around in a Benz with a gold-plated shiftstick, you jerkwad.

And as for education, it's important to show you're smart but a fancy diploma won't get you a job. Why ? Cause you don't have at least 5 years of experience. In ANY field. Employers are fucking picky nowadays. For no good reason. They need a programmer real fast or they'll lose a contract, they'll wait 6 months to gather 500 CVs for ONE position to fill, to find that perfect employee which usually ends up being the vice-president's zitty pothead 16 year old nephew anyhow. So your fancy 5 years in an expensive private school is no match for family ties with ass-grabbing freeloaders with no secondary school diploma.

And if you DO get hired, you can be sure to spend the next 10 years paying off the 5 loans you own to your parents and/or the government.

Ah the joy of being one of society's faceless and countless employees. Recommended rental of the day : George Lucas' THX 1138

This shit is a million miles away from Star Wars and is portrays rather accurately how I feel somedays going to work.

GOD is choosing your job? How sad.

i think you took my post a bit literally. shall i rephrase: thank the circumstances of my situation in life that i will only have to work for the summer, and let me pray that the circumstances will lead to such a situation where i won't ever have to really work at all. unless its one of those "cool" jobs like video game testing

testing video games is just as boring as everything else. It's the most repetitive job I've ever had and I don't think it's ranking as such will ever change. Also the only one where you're stuck doing overtime everyday and on the weekend. I don't think there's a such thing as a job that you're gonna always enjoy, or that you'll even mostly enjoy, even if you love what you're doing. The more education you have, maybe the less boring it'll be, but also the less of a life you'll have, and the more time you'll have to dedicate to continue learning, so it all depends on your priorities.

and education does mean a good job. that is, if you got an education that actually does something, ie. marketable.. which means no arts programs, those don't bring home the bacon.

i have a creative arts DEC, and I work from home as a contractor in the pharma industry. you don't need a "marketable" degree if you already have a "marketable" skill - i went to school to study what interested me, not what was going to make me employable.

why can't there be both? it is wrong to assume that there can never be happiness in your workplace or personal satisfaction and enjoyment from your job or profession. just because you haven't found it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Well I realized one thing working is that a lot of people need music to survive the day, so I feel like the music industry is less of a useless entity than I thought before...

I never said I didnt find it, its just a general opinion..Because I never met someone who was happy with his function at work, his coworker AND his boss, plus the costumers, there always seems to be something going wrong...and I just think this is normal, nothing can ever be perfect always. So people could be very more happy if they deal with that fact first and see whats good.

untrue, you don't need money to survive. You need money to live, not survive. Survival could be begging, stealing or eating roots of flowers.
