i don 't normally go to drum and base parties...

partially because it is not really my thing, and cause i tend to get bored easilly...

yet unexpainbly i felt drawn to staba's launch party

and so me and Mrs Davies set of from the civillized world of down to the backwater burg of st henri in all its ghetto splender, All ktarded and drunk for no reason other than that it was summer and lovely outside...

the local was to say the least beautiful...

big open spaces, upstairs, down stairs and nice bathrooms...

the thing that intrigued me from the begining of the story of 2005 summer drum and base (breaks,) denoument was how was staba would make this idea of his into a reallity, he wanted to do a party with one room with 20-25 peoples playing each for about 15-20mins, i thought to myself, how is he going to make this work, wont this be nothing but hassels? i was sure staba was gonna kill someone by the end of the night, you know like some dumb ass who is late for his set or someone who bitches about the length or something, but none of that happened everything went off like clock work with no problem or disorderly activity,

every body was all like 'this will never work Mike,' beforhand, and he was just like shrugging and shit, be all like 'well, we can find a way to make it work,'\
and so he (they) did...

i had a blast i cannot remember a Dnb and Jungle event that i have enjoyed this much, the party was so good that actually came back after i initially jetted to go home, something i rarely if ever do...

all i have to say to mike (et al) is you deserve the most masive of respect for your masive, once again you have furnished the people with another spring classic in the great traditions that we all strive represent...

i have two negative things to say

first
MCs:

although the quality of MCs at parties has definetly improved over the years, something needs to be said, enough with the MCs who make zero sense on the mic, stop just mumbling some bulshit behind the dex thats not even anything worth listening to, this MCing the true sound of the culture, you must tell the stories, you must be the new poetry in motion, it is you who put this into words for all to hear and know, this is certainly 'a disco adventure...',
start thinking more in terms of lyrics and hooks and chorus, and less in terms of performance and stamina, you don't have to be spitting every second to know your good...here is something you might consider ask who ever is playing to turn down the two other channels just a bit, so you can have some breadth over the music...too many MCs, all screaming at the tops of their lungs, you have to learn to be silky soft and stylish with your rap otherwise its no fun its just you being angry...

second:
'La scene'

everybody talks about what the 'scene' is and how we should be all 'conserving' it cause its going away, nobody more soo than 'drumandbacers', i can't help but remark on the number of long faces at the jam, like cats thinking this gonna be the last jam ever...when did we all become some 'end of the world crew' you know like everything was all ending, how did fall begin before spring this year...?

i don t know what is this scene that we talk about, where does it exist if at all, i know that i have a bunch of friends that i go out and get all sloshed with every couple of weeks is that 'the scene'?

i think when you guys talk about you 'scene' your basicaly talking about the political and social ramification of modern association which derives itself of unique cultural manifestation.

all i m trying to put my fingure on when i say these things is some trepidations i have when i see things like to much camo clothing, guys/girls treating guys/girls like peices of meat, and too much cocaine and money flying arround

when did this shit stop being about records...

'narrow is the gate for fat tapes and dub plates'

i'm scared of this quasi militarism/wanna be radicalism that circulates amongst us, i feel like some of us don 't really understand what they are dealing with and are playing with things they don't understand (and are dangerous) like fake nationalism rooted in arbitrary and restricting communitarianism, remember it does not matter what crew you rep, you are all citizens of this world and will be treated accordingly...I feel like we devide our selfs up more through this shit than anything else, from this springs forward our disaggrement founded in the natural conflict between individual interest. Before you go of and make your self a paramilitary unit in the jungle (city) you may want to read some books about this shit before you do it...

it comes down to this

'you say goodbye
and i say hello

hello
hello

i don't know why you say goodbye
i say hello

hello
hello....'

again respect to Mikey and the gang
:)
