cancer is not an infectious disease. you can't transmit cancer to someone when you have it. i have locomotion on 45 as well. Actually, look at the definition of Infectious. Well, I was going to go on trying to defend myself over the misuse of one word -which in my mind seemed appropriate from what I know of it's definition. But since you are the knowledged one, I will have to concede and accept the fact that a cancer is not in fact 'infectious', like AIDS... In which case, I guess I was wrong when I looked at the definition of 'infectious' in my dictionary and it told me: "caused by a pathogenic microorganism or agent". Even though that didn't seem to answer my question, I checked the definition of pathogenic. in which my dictionary said: 1-Capable of causing disease. 2-Originating or producing disease. 3-Of or relating to pathogenesis. Pathogenisis? Defined simply as: "The development of a diseased or morbid condition." But wait, that has nothing to do with Infectious. So I looked again, at the definition of Infectious. And to my surpirse you were RIGHT! "Communicable by invasion of the body of a susceptible organism (all contagious diseases are also infectious, BUT it does not follow that all infectious diseases are contagious) Wether or not Cancer is actually an infectious disease, is moot. The point is, trying to point out ones faults, in an attempt to make oneself seem wiser is pointless, don't you think? Either way, lets pay attention to the fact that Kylie is sick, and not our egos. Fair? |

Fair? it has nothing to do with my ego, i work in pharmaceuticals and deal with epidimiology and infectious disease regularly. I simply pointed out that cancer was not an infectious disease, you chose to take it further, i backed up my statement. i don't think anyone here really believes cancer is infectious.....not that it matters. |

Bad news for Kylie. While I thought her last album was a little flavourless, uninspired, and pulp-pop, nobody can deny her influence on pop music. And it's sad if anyone gets such a disease. Hopefully breast cancer organizations will have a positive spokesperson in Kylie, and I hope she pulls through.
Repent Tokyo: Where do you work in Pharm? It's my background too! (Well, academically...not personally!) My girlfriend is about to start her marketing externship at Pfeizer. |

i'm a consultant for a company called Caro Research, i've worked on studies for GlaxoSmithKline, Pfeizer, Bristol-Meyers Squib (or whatever they have merged into now - it's hard to keep up!). It's interesting work.
You are right about the cancer cause gaining an important spokesperson - I hadn't thought of that. And tell you gf i wish her good luck at her new position :) |

I've heard of Caro! Some peoples day jobs here blow me away. There are some smart peeps who enjoy the party!
One of my buds from undergrad who is now a DnB DJ in Toronto (Krusada) used to do research for Merck-Frost as a biochemist and another friend of mine who is an affiliate of the Hullabaloo Goodfellas just started med school at Queen's. Keep your eye open for EtOH...the smallest and drunkest (and ONLY) DnB DJ in all of Kingston! ;) It blows my mind sometimes. Keep up the good work! |
