| I recently bought an Imac and its lagging alot when i use Reason.
I have 1gb of ram wich is more than plenty to keep up with it...my activity monitor has about 20% on msn and 20% on reason..and like 5% on about 2 more apps..so its about 55% of memory being used...but it says its got 24mb left of memory...whats going on ?

| Ram is only a place where programs get stored from your hard drive so that they get accessed faster when the CPU is reading from them. Even if it's not taking up a large percentage of your CPU, having another program running is still eating up CPU cycles that could be dedicated to running Reason faster. If you put 4 gigs of ram into a 500mhz processor, it's still just a 500mhz processor and can't handle any more than it would be able to. Unload stuff from your memory. |

| for example my memory usage now is at between 2 and 7% and thats with msn as well as many other small programs running and on this comp I have a quarter of the ram you have on yours. |

| oops I was lookign at cpu.. im actually using 50% memory.. k scratch that, im tired, but it still shoudln't be 20% with 1 gig.
and I'm up cause I'm at work.. done in an hour *sigh* |

| photoshop will eat all your ram if you have a document open in it. if you're gonna use reason, you might as well close photoshop. i have a gig of ram too, but i don't leave photoshop open just for the hell of it, that causes a slow down (on my 3.0 P4). What you SHOULD close, is Yahoo messenger and possibly MSN as well, YMSG is HORRIBLY coded and slows don't your computer a lot, as well the mac version of MSN is also terrible. |

| Yeah, definitely, MSN using 20% CPU is just wrong. Way wrong. Buuuuut, you're stuck with it. And every other PC-to-Mac ported software you'll be using from now on. Welcome to the wonderful world of Macs or " my computer won't boot, anybody else here has an iMac ? No ? Anyone ? Please ? Come on, somebody should be able to help me with this ".
Sorry, no offense but I just had to make this joke. :) |
|
Coolness: 92470
| oh I just looked at ur pic... and you DID mean 20% of the cpu... so back to what I was saying... that's wrong |

| aMSN isn't a ported app though.
MSN's official client certainly isn't either, it's just a shitty edition of it. |

Coolness: 103540
| ok but why if i take all the processes and add up the percentages togheter it equals about 70% of memory usage.....and it says 24mb left ??? |
