yeah well, I am now operating a pretty mc-guyvered up machine.
I call it my Frankenputah.

I like to juggle old technology;) I think my machine does what it needs, and when it dosen't I upgrade accordingly. Slowly, as it grows. I know my system inside out and it's kinda like a pet. ;)

Yet I still get compliments on how it runs, so I guess it ain't all that bad:)

I have 3tb (4x750gig) total but I'll replace one of my 750gig drives with an Intel 80gig SSD in a couple of weeks... Too bad the Intel 160gig SSD's are like 700$. Even 350$ for an Intel 80gig drive is expensive but I bet it will be worth it for the extra speed...

not really gunna solve molochs problem...
but i picked up this 1TB Lacie drive at futureslop for 129$ a few weeks ago and it's pretty decent for storage... And lacie is a pretty good brand. There was cheaper ones there too... but they all looked sketchy as fuck.

just usb 2 windows or mac... and it's not powered so you gotta plug it in.
might be a firewire version too... but if there is it's definately more expeez...
still fast enough for me though...
took me about 20 minutes or so to back up 150 gigs.

no clue???
i wasn't really looking for a deal... just needed a new drive that fit my needs and my budget, so i could back up before installing my new OS.
was probably a sale though... they only had a couple left when i snagged it from the pepsi forum location.

Just a thought, for those peeps looking for external HDs... Consider enclosures?
They're usually pretty cheap, available for 2.5 and 3.5in HDs (PATA/SATA), USB1.1, USB2.0, Firewire, eSata...

Just means you can buy a new HD, add the old one to your desktop (if you have a desktop and room, mind you), etc.

At any rate, it's something to consider :)

I still have that 250 gig HD for 40$... I'm not sure you really need a 1TB drive. The only reason for that is if you have a lot of files to backup which you probably don't if you only wanted a 40gig drive to begin with. I just bought myself an Intel X25-M 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Disk (SSD). I'll let everyone know if it's worth it or not. I got the last one available at NewEgg... They are now sold out of them!

I got my delivery... I can't wait to hook it up and install windows on it :)... The hard drive is WAY smaller then I expected. By the end of the year I hope to have another one and RAID them up together to make a power drive!

The 250gig one is IDE... I also have a 500gig SATA one for 60$ and I have a SCSI drive but it has all my old information on it. I can't access any of it which sucks... Maybe someday.
