Everyone knows underground electronic music has been fusing with more mainstream stuff, but I think its newer styles of breaks that are really starting to bridge the gap. These days, your average listener is more open to breakbeats then 4/4 stuff, because its has similar beats to hiphop and it accomodates more styles of dancing. I think songs like Gwen Stefani (Holla back) and the fact that really underground artists like Si Begg are doing music for MTV, illustrates this point.
Interesting point, Dave. One thing that sounds great too is to blend the 4X4 beat WITH broken beats and sequence. |
