i can't help but to notice...
after what was probably one of the best summers ever for the growth of breaks in mtl... everybody seems to be jumping on the breaks bandwagon... i can't help but to accociate it with the our dnb scene keeling over and nearly dieing... and the house/ techno scenes being takin' over by 450's and turning really low class. did anyone else notice this? like all these crews that never gave a fuck are doing breaks partys now. as a breaks dj... i think it kicks ass, but im still confused as to what the fuck is happening?? what do you think? |

all musical styles, genres can come and go as trends. People get sick of one thing and want another. People who like to dance come to require more variety, if they stick to one particular thing. But the safest place to be, is to be as versatile as you can, incorporate as many styles as possible without making something offensive to the ear, I mean style wise.
break beats illicit a certain type of movement in general, which is nice to subject the body to. |

i guess most people just woke up and realized breaks is the best music ever ...:lol
i've always played drum&bass mainly, but always listened to breaks as much ...and for the past 2 years even more... many well-known progressive or house dj's started to add breaks to their sets in the last couple years 2 ....peeps that play at Aria or 514 parties for example ..James Zabiela or Sasha or even Digweed .. now breaks are everywhere, even psytrance's gonna turn way breaky soon ....once they get over the electro influences .. if u were referring to the Breakin' Da Jungle party happening this saturday ...well we did another breaks party 3 years ago ....so yep the interest has always been there, i've been playing some breaks too once in a while, and one of the idj residents plays strictly breaks , Pi 67 |

saturday was breakin'da jungle or next saturday?
and i think its just that breaks is fashion now. Its 'cool'. My gf been breakin, poppin and the likes for years and she recently told me that classes are filling up like never. I guess ppl are seeing alot more of it on tv and hearing alot more about it. Also, she said that tv show 'so you think you can dance' showed so much breakers that ppl say thats why they are taking the classes. Same happened to techno, same happened to everything. |

You know me. I love the DnB and the Breaks. Interesting call Seb on the psytrance breaks. I hope you're right. I'm feeling drawn in that direction lately. |

Psybreaks, I dig it! :)
I think Breaks is very accessible to everyone, many of my friends don't like "electronic music" (or so they think) and I play a little breaks set and they love it. Breaks is just a great mix of all sorts of types of music. Break it down!!! |

I totalyy agree Murdok Rock
Everyone knows underground electronic music has been fusing with more mainstream stuff, but I think its newer styles of breaks that are really starting to bridge the gap. These days, your average listener is more open to breakbeats then 4/4 stuff, because its has similar beats to hiphop and it accomodates more styles of dancing. I think songs like Gwen Stefani (Holla back) and the fact that really underground artists like Si Begg are doing music for MTV, illustrates this point. |

Amen Brother by the Winstons.
NOt the basis for Hip Hop, just Jungle, and technically Happy Hardcore and Rave used it a good 5-7 years before Jungle did. The real roots are Jazz, into The Sugarhill Gang (1st successful "rap" track). Scratching started on Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" which I think features Grandmaster Flash. Rap died with Biggie and it's body was raped by P.Diddler. Now only hip hop remains. |

One thing that sounds great too is to blend the 4X4 beat WITH broken beats and sequence. |
