wow, talk about sleeper agents, that bot has been registered to the board for almost one year but this is it's first post! Either way, taking care of it, no one click on that link!

Oh, hey, IP banning, that'll handle things much better considering all three of this week's spammers are from the same IP!

The part the makes me laugh the most about that whole "turn off everything non-essential for one hour" thing is that none of the idiot hippies telling you to do that know how a lot of electronics work.

TVs and computers, at least, use MORE electricity in the one-shot that they're turned on than they would in 2 days. So, congratulations, by turning off, then on, your computer/tv, you've just wasted 2 days worth of power and done that much more damage to the environment.

Yup. Anything that we consume in some way, we do because we enjoy it. You're not going to go out and buy a shirt you hate or listen to music you don't like. You not understanding people's desire to alter their state of mind is the same thing as your grandparents not understanding how you could possibly enjoy Speedcore and think it was good music.

Some people aren't satisfied with simply using their senses at the factory default, they want to overclock and push the limits and see what it's like, in the same way that some people think being the world champion hotdog speed-eater is the single greatest thing a man can achieve.

about 3-4 months. it's not the same people that used to run it, and I think the way they have it set up now it only keeps torrents on site for 30 days so that there's not just people that grab a ton of old stuff and just seed forever and don't give anyone else a chance to seed.

mix 2 is gonna be the dubby one, the Zion Cluster :P

I've also got a rip of the book being read on tape that I'm going to put bits and pieces of the naration chopped up to give some context for those that don't know the book (and hopefully get them interested in it)

what with the movie being in the works (same guy that did Cube/Splice) and apparently an open-world videogame set in the same world, as well as the rest of the trilogy being refereed to as a franchise by the director.. I think it's the perfect time :P

**********

“Panther Moderns,” he said to the Hosaka, removing the trodes. “Five minute precis.”

“Ready,” the computer said.

It wasn’t a name he knew. Something new, something that had come in since he’d been in Chiba. Fads swept the youth of the Sprawl at the speed of light; entire subcultures could rise overnight, thrive for a dozen weeks, and then vanish utterly.“Go,” he said. The Hosaka had accessed its array of libraries, journals, and news services.

The precis began with a long hold on a color still that Case at first assumed was a collage of some kind, a boy’s face snipped from another image and glued to a photograph of a paint-scrawled wall. Dark eyes, epicanthic folds obviously the result of surgery, an angry dusting of acne across pale narrow cheeks. The Hosaka released the freeze; the boy moved, flowing with the sinister grace of a mime pretending to be a jungle predator. His body was nearly invisible, an abstract pattern approximating the scribbled brickwork sliding smoothly across his tight one piece. Mimetic polycarbon.Cut to Dr. Virginia Rambali, Sociology, NYU, her name, faculty, and school pulsing across the screen in pink alphanumerics.

“Given their penchant for these random acts of surreal violence,” someone said, “it may be difficult for our viewers to understand why you continue to insist that this phenomenon isn’t a form of terrorism.”

Dr. Rambali smiled. “There is always a point at which the terrorist ceases to manipulate the media gestalt. A point at which the violence may well escalate, but beyond which the terrorist has become symptomatic of the media gestalt itself.Terrorism as we ordinarily understand it is innately media-related. The Panther Moderns differ from other terrorists precisely in their degree of self-consciousness, in their awareness of the extent to which media divorce the act of terrorism from the original sociopolitical intent…”

“Skip it,” Case said.

Case met his first Modern two days after he’d screened the Hosaka’s precis. The Moderns, he’d decided, were a contemporary version of the Big Scientists of his own late teens. There was a kind of ghostly teenage DNA at work in the Sprawl, something that carried the coded precepts of various short-lived sub cults and replicated them at odd intervals. The Panther Moderns were a soft head variant on the Scientists. If the technology had been available the Big Scientists would all have had sockets stuffed with microsofts. It was the style that mattered and the style was the same. The Moderns were mercenaries, practical jokers, nihilistic technofetishists.

Screwhead - The Sprawl v.01: Panther Moderns

The idea for this mix is to make something that I would imagine the Panther Moderns from Neuromancer listen to. I've always pictured them as a sort of cross between taggers, skaters/traceurs and Anonymous; a blend of urban rebellion, hacking and electronic beats with a bit of a tribal "us against the world" mentality, and I think this mix does a good job representing the sort of vibe I've always gotten when I've read Neuromancer.

>Panther Moderns
Fokus + DBR UK - The Horsementality
Dub Phizix + Skeptical + Strategy - Marka
Icicle + SPMC - Dreadnaught
Nickbee + Malk - Human Race
Future Signal - Trident
State of Mind - Sleepcreep
Dub Phizix + Skeptical - Rags
Anile + Codebreaker - Start Again
Future Signal - Surveilance
Heavy1 - Heavy Tone
Psyborg - The All Knowing Mantis
>The Message

I'm gonna do a whole series of these.. short mixes of stuff that I imagine characters/groups from the Sprawl trilogy listen to or music that would be playing during a prominent scene featuring them..

Coming up next: The Sprawl v.02: Zion Cluster

Cats are fucking dicks and totally un-plur so fuck no I wouldn't let a cat go to a rave (I say "a" cat, because there will never be a "my" cat)

Dogs on the other hand purely and simply represent what it means to be PLUR. Dogs love absolutely everyone unconditionally and they don't have to put on tacky fun fur to be fuzzy.

I have no idea, I barely ever go to one, and specifically because they have some of the best smoked meat in the city (as odd of a place that you'd expect that from)

They just cut you off these huge strips of the stuff.. and it's a buffet, so... lol

Buffets are generally pretty specific.. Chinese, Indian, etc..

The other option is Vichy, which is OK.. Decent food, lots of stuff, but it's all more "passable" and "average" than you would get from a place that specializes..

If you want a buffet with good food you're gonna have to go with a specific cuisine, you'll be a lot better off.. Jack of all trades, master of none, or top of the line specialty, masters of their craft..

That said though Vichy IS usually pretty good, despite being nothing all THAT spectacular.

I've known more than a few people that that's EXACTLY what they were doing drugs for. Why just stimulate your taste buds in different ways? Different drugs all have their own distinct sort of high and ways of altering perception or making a person feel. It's like drinking a nice bourbon instead of a cheap vodka; For some people the goal is to just get hammered, but for others the goal isn't simply to get drunk, but also to experience a taste/type of drunk that you enjoy. Different alcohols have different effects on people. Some will get violent only if they drink from a particular type of alcohol, some can drink tons of booze but always get sick from just two shots of tequila..

you know, I'd never thought of it like that, and that makes absolute fucking sense.. You always see these kinds of things as shared by a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend etc on Facebook, and the original owner (and everyone that's re-shared it) can at the very least see everyone that sent it through them and what they've posted..

That's pretty fucking genius actually.. I mean unless you've really tweaked your settings, by default anyone can read your name and maybe see your family members.. "What is your mother's Maiden name" is a pretty standard question on most password reset options.. your birthdate is just as important..

Yeah, but MP4 is a container that's often used to hold x264 encoded video, and x264 can be a little on the CPU intensive side. For example, an SD sub-480p video won't play properly on an old xbox, and that's got a 733mhz CPU. On Android, using the Touchpad as an example, using a software-decoder instead of the dedicated hardware chip, it can't play 720p video, and it's a dual-core CPU that's overclocked to 1.7ghz.

It's a great codec, but if for some reason your hardware doesn't support acceleration it might not play back well, if at all.

MP4 is a container in the same way as an MKV, and they're usually used for high-def video encoded in x264. It's also the most 'standard' HD container format for most DVD/BluRay/consoles.
