oh sorry i forgot you still live at your parent and they paid for you schol so you only have to work on summer...

if this comment is aimed at me (which I'm assuming it is because I'm the only who claimed to only work summers, while living at my parents') then you are really going to regret writing that...

Like I said, I do live my parents. correct.
I do work mostly only during the summer. You got that correct too.

But like I said in all my posts, I still have enough money to pay all my schooling and books. I still had enough money to invest 5000$ in stocks.
I still went out every week or so, spending money on stupidities like alcohol or food or cigars.
I still had enough money to renew my gym membership for 300$.
I still had enough money to go to Cuba for a week.
I still had enough money to buy a 5 megapizel digital camera for 1000$.
And all this without any money from my parents.
Not to mention all the clothes I bought over the year.

I'm quite certain that if I was living on my own, that I wouldn't have spent money going to Cuba, or on a new digital camera, or drinknig every weekend. You have to make sacrifices.
And if these lazy bastards can't go a semester without getting drunk every weekend, well that's their own damn problem. The government shouldn't be paying their beer.
Because, honestly, where do you think the bursary money goes? The school? Hardly. It goes to the bar.
I say that if they give more bursaries out, they should decrease commercial sponsoship or subsidizing, especially in the alcoholic beverage sector.
They'd be getting twice as much!

and youre barking up the wrong tree telling me not to be lazy and to get a job and pay for insurance...

Olde r Siblings Smarter, Norwegian Study Shows
Tue Mar 15, 2005 01:01 PM ET

OSLO (Reuters) - First born children in Norway get better education and as adults are more successful in the job market than younger siblings, a Norwegian-U.S. study showed.

"It is the birth order and not necessarily the size of the family that is important," said economics professor Kjell Salvanes of the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration. "It is better if you are the first born." Salvanes and two colleagues from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) based their study on census data of Norwegians born between 1912 and 1975.

The findings will be published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, a Harvard publication, in May.

They found that younger siblings tend to get less schooling than their elders and then end up with lower pay on average and were more likely to be in part-time work, Salvanes said. The findings were likely to hold true in other countries, he said.

"In terms of educational attainment, if you are the fourth born instead of the first, you get almost one year less education, and that is quite a lot," Salvanes told Reuters.

And first-born children tend to weigh more at birth than their younger brothers and sisters, which is a good predictor for educational success, Salvanes said.

Children alone with two adults also tend to get more intellectual stimulation than children in large families who get less parental attention, he said.

First-born children seem to learn from teaching their younger siblings, contrary to the common notion that younger children benefit by learning from their elders, Salvanes said.

So does that mean big sisters really are smarter?

"Yes. It's hard to admit because I have older sisters," Salvanes said.

Ok... Was there even a strike today? Seriously. All the signs around the school said to be there for 1pm. I was there at 2 and the place was a ghost town.
Seems a lot of people care about the whole bursary issue huh?
I went to class today, pretty much everyone was there. Most classrooms I walked by were full actually.

no... you didn't... and if you did, you're obviously illiterate and should DEFINITELY NOT be getting a bursary anytime soon

what most people have been agreeing on here is that TOO MANY PEOPLE, who would otherwise be able to afford school but are too lazy to get a job, are TAKING ADVANTAGE of the bursary program
*I* am paying taxes for some lazy fuck to go to school for free? no fucking way... (and yes i pay taxes even though i'm still a student, i made a lot of money this summer and reached a higher tax bracket... and yeah, i worked all summer, 2 jobs even, at one point I had 5... and i havent worked a day since september 4th)
