A new exhibition of works by the painter Jackson Brown will add an element of artworld dazzle to the forthcoming introduction of the spring 2006 collection of the Strut Menswear line. The Strut show and Brown's exhibition will open simultaneously at the Strut store, 81 Greene Street in Soho, on Friday, January 20 at 6pm. The show will continue at Strut through March 1. In effect, Brown's work will be the subject of two new shows, one in the store itself, the other in the store's basement-level gallery. The Strut store will display four paintings inspired by the work of each the four design teams whose lines are sold at Strut: Kamkyl (out of Montreal), Kaadiki (out of Calgary), and Bray Steve Alan and David Mayer, both of whom are based in Rome. Also displayed will be one garment by each of the designers after it's been "customized" by Brown. Downstairs, Brown will show a variety of works new and old. These include two choice pieces from his well-received solo show at the Eyejammie Fine Arts Gallery in February of last year -- large portraits of Flavor Flav and of Deborah Harry and Fab 5 Freddy, respectively. Exhibited for the first time will be two new collaborations – one between Brown and the photographer Ricky Powell, the other between Brown and the painter Sacha Jenkins. Mr. Brown was invited to show at Strut by Kevin Thompson, the firm's director.
