| Info: | Monday, June 6, 2005, Kapacity Entertainment proudly presents the return of one of Hip-Hop’s most innovative groups, Digable Planets. Though they were not the first to synthesize jazz and hip-hop, Digable Planets epitomized the laid-back charm of jazz hipsters better than any group before or since. Digable Planets formed in the early 90's, when Butterfly met Ladybug while attending college in Massachusetts. The two later hooked up with Doodlebug, in Washington, D.C., and began recording. The trio's 1993 debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), was a mellow ride packed with samples from Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, and Curtis Mayfield, and the single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" became a Top 20 pop hit. Reachin' was a critical and commercial success that earned the group a Grammy for best Duo or Group, making them the first Hip-Hop group to receive the award in that catergory. After embarking on an ambitious tour, which included several live musicians, the Planets returned in late 1994 with their follow up album, Blowout Comb. This record continued the group's jazz-rap fusion, but also saw them branching out to embrace the old school sound of the street as well, such as on the lead single, 9th Wonder. The group disbanded in 1995, with each member remaining active in the creative community including various solo efforts such as Butterfly's Cherrywine, Doodlebug's work as Cee Knowledge, and Ladybug's forthcoming solo debut. After a 10-year hiatus, Digable Planets have reunited to record a third album and are ready to hit the scene as mature as ever. Their shows earlier this year in Europe and in the U.S. have received enthusiastic, highly praised reviews and the Planets are now set for their Reunion Tour. Opening Acts GOD MADE ME FUNKY.
