| Info: | On Friday February 6th, join the WUSC Carleton local committee at Mike's Place, Carleton U, for Bass Beyond Borders. It's a fundraiser for our Student Refugee Sponsorship Program. Information on the sponsorship program, refugee issues and other sustainable development initiatives by WUSC! tunes provided by: Daser -old skool hip hop & breaks Bear Witness - dancehall Selecta Nemo - breaks 'n dub Mz. Revolution - reggae in tha jungle doors at 9pm $5 (or more by donation!) 19 + with i.d. Mike's Place is wheelchair accessible and is located on the second floor of the Unicentre building. Take buses 4, 7 or the O-Train to Carleton. World University Service of Canada is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that works on sustainable development education initiatives, both abroad and here in Canada. The Carleton local committee is a group of students and community members who put on development education events and sponsor student refugees from countries such as Burma and the Sudan to study at Carleton. Each year approximately 40 student refugees enter Canada through the WUSC Student Refugee Program. The program enables student refugees to come to Canada to continue their studies and through an agreement with Citizenship and Immigration Canada they are eligible to resettle here as landed immigrants. Over the past 20 years more than 600 student refugees have been sponsored by over 70 WUSC Local Committees and Sponsoring Groups on university and college campuses across Canada. |
