 Coolness: 91755 | if you read what I wrote carefully, all i said is that what is considered "perverse" by society has more to do with that societies' sexual norms then what is actually harmful. I didn't make the case specificially for or against pedophelia.
BUT now I WILL bring up an argument that I hope you at least think about... In ancient Greek society, considered by many to be "enlightened", it was common practice for young boys to have sex with older men in a sort of tutor-pupil relationship. In our society, of course, such a relationship would be seen as perverse, but it was considered normal at that time. Now, do you think that all those boys grew up having psychological problems? Possibly, but I doubt it. Because the only reason such a memory would be repressed in the first place, is that it is considered socially unacceptable, and the child feels guilt/shame/etc. However, in a society where that behaviour is considered normal, there would be no need for it to be repressed, and there would not be negative emotions associated with the act. "Btw, stop acting like you are constantly on speed." HAHA u just made my day, honestly. The fact is when there is good music I will feel great even when sober, I'm sorry if you have to take drugs to feel like that. |

 Coolness: 685655 | Yeah, it all boils down to the mass-opinion of the time. It's only "wrong" because so many people think it's wrong. Hell, up untill a few hundred years ago, pregnant 12-13 year olds was a comon sight! Why? Because when puberty kicks in and women are capable of having babies, THEY DID! This whole concept of "needing to be a certain age to be responsible" thing is only a recent development in the human race. Back then you were lucky to live to your mid 20s, and your body is DESIGNED to start reproducking at about 11-3 years old. It's just that people have started to focus their lives too much on "having fun" over "survival", which has created a shitload of people who wouldn't have the responsibility to take care of a child if they lived to be 40 as 12 year olds had a few hundred years ago. |

Romeo was 14, Juliet was 12... what does this promote?... however at the time marriage at that age was not uncommon,... hell peopple also didnt live to be as elderly as they do now hence the whole maturing & development process speed is alot faster than it is in today's society where people... most people stay i school until their mid 20's. !Phoenix! |

I thought I was out of this thread, then I read on... First off, Poison Candy person, though in ancient Greek society, there was some teacher-man, student-boy action. It was documented, but it was not as wide spread or comon as most miss-educated north americans tend to believe/embilish upon. Further more, this "behavior" was not the "norm", it was tollerated by most, for reasons that I cant begin to explain, because I didn't exist back then, and have no way of expanding on the later. But to give an example of ancient Greeks that didn't participate in this supposed "norm", the spartans. They were too busy being some of the best warriors ever. Note: Even if something is the "norm" does that make it right?(i.e. some parts of the world, it's the "norm" to burn your wife if you think she's betrayed you) Anyways, this is not a history lesson, this thread is ridiculous, joking about this is sick. How you, or any one else on this board could think even just for a second that the only reason why pedophilia, in, or out of the family isn't accepted is cause it is not a sexual norm, is fawked! NOT A NORM? There is a reason why pedophiles and inner-family fournicators are treated as criminals/sex ofenders, BECAUSE THEY ARE SICK IN THE HEAD! No shit its not the norm! Similarly, any sexual practice which is not normative will be considered "sick", just as homosexuality was seen 50 years ago (and, as jeff pointed out, continues to be seen in some parts) If you consider cousins to be family, then my grandparents were "inner-family fournicators" and you know what? the society they came from (iraq) considers this to be perfectly normal, and they do to, because this is how they were brought up to think in our society, the norm is for people not to have sex untill the mid-late teens at least, and even then, only with similar-aged partners. but honestly, do you really beleive that most grown men have never seen a 12 year old girl and been attracted to her? of course they have, its just that 99.9% of grown men learn to repress that attraction to younger girls because society considers it wrong, and the 0.1% of grown men that act on that attraction are the ones that are considered sick. its a fact that most people think about sex around once a minute. but imagine if you met someone that mentioned sex every minute? that person would be considered perveted, because its not societies' norm to talk about sex, even though everyone thinks about it. |
