Sarah, that involves going to authorities and getting the person arested on a drug-use/possesion charge, and then a judge decides if they need rehab or jail time.

You don't need to have them arrested. You can have them committed to a inpatient rehab/mental illness facility if you can make the case that they are a threat to theselves or someone else. Unfortunatly, that is very hard to do and in many cases it is easier to get them arrested.

And just to clarify, drug use is not illegal. You could not have someone arrested because they are high. However, you could have someone arrested if they have drugs on them...

Best thing to do is to get them somewhere weher they cannot easily escape and secertly call 911 explaining you have someone who is need of serious help and they will send an abulance (and likley police too). Try if you can, to make sure there are no drugs in the premises because chances are they will search and you don't want to get yourself in trouble.

if you force someone into rehab, it won't work. you have to want help for it to work.

alex has already been through rehab once, with my brother, and he kept clean for all of 2-3 onces after that.

Rehab isn't necessarily the best place to quit doing drugs. It fucks people up. Places like Portage and Shawbridge are really unhealthy for someone who is being forced to quit drugs because you're surrounded by people who are jonesing just as bad as you are. I'm not saying that an ultra-structured environment is bad for a person with a drug problem, (Hell, I don't even know who the hell you guys are talking about) but the people in that environment might be. I know a few people that came out of juvie worse off than they were when they went in...my 2 cents

yeah, that's really true.

I agree 100%.

Portage can give you an idea of whats good, but if you really dont want it, you wont accept the help.

youll do whatever to get out of the program and start using again...

exactly. and that's what happened to alex. he went through portage with my brother. he left, a few weeks shy of graduation, stayed clean for a little while and then started using again.

I know.
But I don't know what else to do. He's got a lot of issues, not just drugs, and if he can be convinced to go back of his own free will it might help him. Portage was a waste of time (and tons of money too), Shawbridge didn't help him, psychologists haven't helped. But he's far gone.
He needs shelter, a job, basic shit.
I don't know if he'll ever go back to rehab.

but again- why would he do those things if he doesn't want to? forcing him to get a job and stuff is just like forcing him back into rehab. you have to want to be helped to get help.

if he needs help, he'll come to you, in time.

It wasn't free for my mother for some reason. She was paying a lot of money each month. I don't know why.
