i know computer technicians who never went to school to be computer technicians either - the common thread is that these people are still making under 40 an hour. which in my opinion, i wouldnt settle for. even as a freelancer.

but it depends on the individual i guess.

imo, as i said before relating to design school and technical college and whatnot: no one can teach you something thats inherent in some people naturally.

and 2advanced, granted its a classic site, is not created or maintained by one individual. so more power to ya if you can do something like that on your own, id bow down if i saw it.

thats all :)

..and successfully not be hired in any reputable firm.

its all about the paper status.

Yeah, if you were a programmer I would agree to a certain extent. But the technology/graphics industry is in a peculiar position. A position where the resources to learn your skills are available, free of cost. And the ability to be as good as a scholar is not hard at all.

2advanced was designed by one fellow, Eric Jordan. Yes, the firm has several people working for him, but have you even looked at their portfolio? Every site is the same as the v3 site.

As long i can get my hands on the softwares.
I can learn by myself and i will have no problem in designing. Everyone tells me to go to art skool.

I was looking at going to skool for motivation, and meeting, networking people in the field.

stranded on a pacific island was allusion to sitting in front of the PC, learning at home

----Yes i know going to skool is not the same as work experience. The only thing preventing me to go to school is the huge student loan i hav to pay afterward.

school for the following reasons, my personal take on this thereby reflecting my reasoning in the choices i've made *throws a look at alex* because not all of us are rocket scientist material and or have the drive to do it on our own... even though i technically am self taught, school is tweaking a lot of my previous knowledge...

school is good for:
motivation: yes
competition: no
inspiration: no
technical knowledge: minimal
applied knowledge: too much
incentive: portfolio
drive: kick everyone elses asses and make them go wow
networking: there are better places for that... the end result is that its all about who you know.
