It's not that West Island people are contributing to the demise of the plateau, it's that alot of West Islanders are yuppies. It's the yuppies who've contributed to the demise of the Plateau by gentrifying it. They moved their because they thought it was "cool", and by moving their they forced everyone who made it cool to move out - they couldn't afford to pay the rent anymore. I'm from the West Island myself, and I have to agree with Naw. |

| Coolness: 66720 | west island yuppies probally wouldn't want to live in the plateau anyways. Its a very yuppiesh place to live. The reason why its so expensive is becasue 99.9% of Montreal in general wants to live there, so landlords are cashing in. |

| Coolness: 63365 | I think that the French or fluently bilingual yuppies from the West Island are more inclined (at least, that's the impression I get) to move to the Plateau than other's might be.
Because that's where all the other upwardly mobile late 20 somethings are moving to... I wouldn't say that's where everyone in Montreal wants to live, but that's where most of the young professionals want to live. And since West Islanders live so far from the city, when it's time to move away from home - they'll often choose to move to the Plateau. ... granted, that's just my impression ;) |
