* location
* sound system * DJs this can cost some or a lot of money. now here's the interesting part: how it's paid off is the organizers problem. if you can't play from at least 10 pm 'till 6 am, it ain't a rave ; albeit 8 'till 8 is better. if you can hear the fellow dancer next to you without making a real effort nor the bass isn't enveloping you, it's just a party, not an event. you will want music to please most people as possible and that's--not--an easy task ; having rotating small groups of super-excited dancers can boring (and most likely is) to those not excited. there's a way to circumvent the last part: specify a genre to the event, ie: a psychedelic rave.

1. A venue, which doesn't really exist in Montreal except that creepy place on Iberville |

yes, but the owners are now wise to what we are doing and charge a lot thereby making it difficult to break even let alone make a decent profit...

Well, there are actually a lot of venues. Last year we started looking in october to throw our NYE party and found a few ones almost instantly and we were late on the boat. There are a few great ones, some cool ones and a whole lot of ghetto ones. Your best asset is the phone call. Scout.

There are some real estate agents who deal in commercial and industrial spaces.
I'm sure some of them could be persuaded to outright lend the space for the night, or lend you the keys to later deny knowledge, but even then it's a big leap of faith for the promoters. You just don't want to hear White Rabbit as the last track. Depending on the location, then it's just doing what needs to be done to make sure everyone's comfortable and the night goes smoothly. Probably worth a shot. I mean, nobody cares if there's loud music and rowdy people among empty manufacturing warehouses. There's just the jelly city who might want invites, but if everything is more or less well thought-of prior, I'm sure they have more important things to do. |
