Meh, might as well share mine while we're at it...

I grew up with a father obsessed by music. He purchased his first vinyl at 13 back in the 60s, even worked in a vinyl store in the 70s. As long as I can remember, we always had one room dedicated to the sound system and his impressive collection of 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s 33 and 45 rpm vinyls. We always had 2 turntables which never ran at the same time.

Come the 80s, in my teen years where I myself started haunting vinyl stores and purchasing NME and other UK based electronic music based magazine with various articles of a new popular musical style from Chicago called "house". Started collecting house vinyls at a time where only a few knowledgeable people seemed interested in acquiring it ( and where vinyl store clerks were calling it Montreal's next musical revolution ) aside from the gay village who were eating house up like it was sugar-coated candy.

After reading about it countless times, I fired up both Technics tables at the same time and started trying to mix tracks, much to my father's absolute confusion as ti what I was trying to achieve. After a while and with enough experience, he saw what I was trying to accomplish and was impressed and amazed that it could even be done to begin with.

Then I totally started hogging the tables and sound system every day of the week after school aside from sunday which were reserved to my father and his weekly listening of everything from Elvis to disco.

A few years of vinyl collecting made it so that I knew every vinyl's clerks by first names and the other way around. For an aspiring DJ, there isn't anything cooler than a store clerk setting plates aside for you during the week without your knowledge and having them take the stash out from under the counter just for you. It was utterly awesome.

Finally started raving and after another few years of friends pushing me to do it, was booked by a promoter friend to play at his party and ended up playing in raves for about 5 or 6 years.

Then I grew older and because of work, stopped raving but I still spin regularly in my basement. Even purchase Traktor Scratch Pro 2 a week ago and struggling with this new technology.

I don't think I'll ever be able to stop spinning, it's the worst addiction ever... one I will never go to rehab for. :)

All I ever cared about was scratching for a long time. Always had the shittiest turntables for years, but with little tricks, was able to get them to be half decent to practice on...
I used to save my allowance of the week, and either hop the train, or pour nickles + dimes into a bus to get downtown, and buy one or two records at a time, once a week.

Then somewhere around 1999, I started noticing the B sides of some of these hip hop records, where there were "club" remixes, or bonus beats at the end that were more around the 115-125 bpm, and started trying to beatmatch them...

Next thing you know, a friend of mine found a couple of old house and techno records for me, and that's basically when I started collecting electronic music, and mixing it in house parties, then bar nights, new years parties, etc etc...

Back then it was all about the Love, nowadays, the only reason why I'm still mixing is for the Bitches & Blow!!!
I'm feeling your insides right now..
