selling out is when you accept to do something you don't usually do in return for the fame/reputation/money it will get you

it doesn't make him a bad person tho

... exactly!

this definitiopn hits the nail right on the head.

and yeah, speaking of head, another good example of "selling out" is: when white guys get dreadlocks.

Actually selling out has more to do with compromising your core values.

Lets say you're an artist and you say "I won't take any money from Coke because I think they are a bad company"

Then Coke comes along and says "Look, we would like to sponsor you so we can access your market"

If you take the money and start giving props to Coke as a result then you're a sellout.

On the other hand doing something different or expanding your horizons has nothing to do with selling out.

jesus christ just give the dude some producer names already xD

... or you can just go look at Bliss' sets on here and steal some ideas, since he's a breaks guy ;)

I'm not too educated in the world of breaks, but i love big-beat, so just incase you find nothing else, I suggest you grab some Prodigy and Chemical Brothers to fill in your set. You can even cut some of those tunes, if you find some at 140 bpm, with some psy tracks, like psy vs. breaks instead of psy-breaks. mix it up!

... and did you say Niagara Falls? You can always just impress everybody by getting a barrel and getting wet :p
I'm feeling you up right now..

There was a comp Sasha and Digweed did back in the day called "Northern Lights" or something, that one had a lot of old trancey breakbeat tunes like this on it.

Acid breaks are also quite trippy...I think a psy crowd would enjoy these type of breaks

^^^ good stuff! that acid breakbeat is exactly what I was talking about. I love it.

exactly. it's only selling out if it goes against your morals. doing something you know is wrong, cuz you want the money or the exposure.

for example.. there's a big casino resort called Sun City in South Africa. It was in a really impoverished area. so in the 1980s, a bunch of famous musicians did a protest song and video about the resort, to draw attention to apartheid. and they vowed never to perform there.

but a lot of musicians and artists still did perform there. they need the money, so they take the gig, even though they know the resort is owned by a racist apartheid state. that's a classic definition of a sellout.

that's a pretty extreme case though. a more subtle and common example would be: working with certain promoters or DJs even though you know they are snakes, and you have reason not to like them. but you take the gig anyway, cuz you love the music and you wanna play.

nothing to do with it.
are you pissed that soon you can't be a dj anymore and some people may get fame and money from doing the same thing, but differently than you, that they actually enjoy?
n'importe quoi lol :)

not at all dude, did you forget you're on [ rave.ca ] what did you expect?

I couldn't care less what you spin, and I'm not the only one who said that it's strange to get booked for style you don't even know a single artist of. I meant no disrespect tho, honestly I was just kidding around... what you do and how you do it is none of my business

LMAOROLF fame and money?! being a DJ? man all those years of psychedelic drugs really fucked you up eh?

and what do you mean, "that they actually enjoy". this guy doesn't even know the style he's gonna be playin'

part of me is sad that I won't be mixing much anymore, but the other 98% reminds that 2% that I'm doing it for the best possible reasons, from my perspective of course. Besides, I've played every single big psy event in Montreal multiples times over and I can say from experience, fame and money are not byproducts...

exactly. so fame and money are not byproducts of playing psybreaks at a party for his friends.
why do you say he's selling out? i don't understand why you say that. your words even contradict...

jeez girl, plz read my post before getting all worked up.

"I meant no disrespect tho, honestly I was just kidding around.."

however, the point remains that people think DJs get famous and get money... often the converse is true, it's fame and money that allow you to become a DJ. not always of course, but think about it...

This guy has a lot of podcast with (psy)breaks and (psy)dnb..
he provides a listing and some tracks are free tunes from soundcloud artists, so i guess you should be able to make a playlist quite easily..

I'm relieved that what I thought of as selling is the same as what most of you described (never thought I'd be so glad to have the same opinion as someone else heehee)... I still don't understand AlienZed's example, but not sure it really matters, since he was kidding.

As for the personal comments made between AlienZed and Yoshin, I can't help but think it's a bit weird that an organizer would altogether stop hiring an artist because of they refused to work in certain environments... It's like saying you wont hire a band to play in Quebec because they refused to play in Toronto or wtv, unless there are financial reasons I think it's a bit weird, but hey, I think a lot of things people do are weird...

I know I am also being totally unhelpful, I have no freaking clue who plays psybreak or where to get some :/ although it sounds like it would make pretty cool beats, something juicy and greasy! or would it sound more like crispy?

Well, @Deception, I hope the psybreak beats bring you fame and money :D oh oh and lots and lots of fun!

It's very simple, if an artist refuses to work where they might be needed them to work, you can't rely on that artist, therefore you need to find an artist who will work where they might need work. wasn't a question of money...
would you 'hire' someone who might not show up?

i'm not 'not hiring her altogether', I'm just 'not hiring' her this time. Regardless, it's too bad that we don't get to see her deco 'this time', I've always admired it.

oh well. more time for me. i'm actually looking for a job, so anything you think i may enjoy, please send me a PM (i mean not just deco, any interesting... or even maybe somewhat non-interesting i could deal with... job) :)

you know come to think of it you can get a whole bunch of neurofunk DnB and pitch it down to the BPM you want.. Black Sun Empire stuff sounds great on 33 instead of 45, so I'd imagine taking a bit of time to slow some DnB down in Ableton or some other program could give you something awesome to mix.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..
