So...I'm curious to know how you feel about the subject of gifting.

If a friend was to give you a gift, would you feel obliged to give one back? Does it depend on the person?

Have you ever recieved a gift that felt like charity? What differentiates one from the other for you?

If a gift is extravigent or expensive, do you feel bad for accepting it? Have you ever bought someone a lesser gift than you originally wanted because you didn't know how they would react to recieving a really expensive gift?

Can recieving a gift make you resent the gifter as a show-off or a do-gooder?

Do you need a reason or occassion for giving someone a gift?
I'm feeling a overhang right now..

I personally tend to feel uncomfortable when most people give me anything.. but if I've got money and can afford it, I constantly spend it on everyone around me.. even if it's just simple things like grabbing a couple of chocolate bars for my roommate when I'm out doing groceries, of if I see something my dad would like, etc..

I'm way more comfortable giving than receiving.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

I love giving drinks to DJs that play a few tracks of speedcore. :woohoo

I hate being pressured into giving, if I feel like baking a cake with a 1$ box for your birthday, so be it. If I feel I have extra money a month and I think about my love (platonic) for someone, I'll do a shopping spree or plan a special day with with him/her.
I'm feeling <3 sexi_babe_69 right now..

It's just a gift.

Take it and be happy that someone thinks about you.

No one gives to get something back, and if they does, it's their lost.

I see alot of things that makes me think of my boyfriend or friends! I just can't help myself to buy it and see their smile after! Makes me happy all the time.

Converting something as simple as a gift to something complicated like a subtle message to respond to, is, in my book, kind of silly.
I'm feeling kiss me, im shitface right now..

Definitely way more comfortable giving gifts than receiving them (not saying I don't like getting gifts mind you)

Hahaha :P

What I know is that, back then (and still traditionally so today), giving something as a gift that the recipient could not normally afford was seen as an insult to that recipient's social status. It was a sign of being magnanimous, which is defined as being "very generous or forgiving, especially toward a rival or someone less powerful than oneself".

So too good a gift was an affront and a blow to one's honour.

Ahh, the complications of honour :D

it isn't a gift anymore is something is expected in return, so giving one, you shouldnt expect anything in return except gratitude.

I love giving gifts, and getting them dosnt make me feel unconfortable if its from a friend, but getting one I dont know well can be awkward.
But I hate christams gifting beacause I dont feel like people wanted to get me something but they felt like they had to. And I hate having to get christams gifts for the same reason. I think christmas gifts should be more for children.
Last year I got my whole family a couple acres of rain forest that would be saved, I`m not sure they like the idea tho....
I'm feeling pensive right now..

Maybe those who posted already really don't prefer getting gifts? I know I love receiving presents, but to say I prefer it over giving somebody something is a touch call to make imo Also as nads said, it really depends on who the gift is from. If I get something from my best friend I'm going to be touched and ridiculously happy....but if it's from somebody I don't know so well I'll probably be more hesitant in accepting.
