that's awesome! In the book I've got, Garage Virtual Reality, one thing they show that people were doing was using a similar setup (rows of LEDs + vibrating mirror) to make a HUD.. if you could figure out how to send video signal to the displays and work out something to mount them on, you could do something like a wireframe GPS overlay built in to a pair of sunglasses..

:D that would be nice , id mod those real 3d glasses to be vb/avr instead XD

i wanted to take a picture of the board they put at the front of the vb. (there is one all around the vb)this one its right at the back of the mirrors, but imo they made it so it would be easy to move it up to the top of the vb or at the bottom with the cartridge . and then use a transparent instead of the red plastic hood and transparent mirrors and eye shutters. and voila , augmented reality.

also if you look at the speakers on the side you could slide a strap there to strap it straight on your forhead. its soo much there to use it wouldnt even be a mod .

also that debugger console i want. saw one prototye , looks like a big pc tower that hooks to the ext port on the bottom , to me that machine would be a dream to code , it reminds me of that story in william gibson's burning chrome (the compilation of stories not the burning chrome story itself) there is one with 3 vs 3 holographic dogfight, when i think of the girl that code them , that whole setup comes to my mind.

fuck i dont mean to sound that geek , but i cant fight it off XD

its sad that the cam didnt zoom the wire , but really they are too tiny even to look with bare eyes, its tiny like eyelashes and even some more , first pic almost nailed it

yeah that was an awesome story

You should look up the REND386 libraries.. or probably something more recent, that was the cutting-edge at the time the GarageVR book was written in 1994 lol.. but the REND386 code was done for hardware from roughly that period of time.. if you could interface the VB with your PC, you could probably get a stereoscopic image out of them using that..

thanks i will definitely look it up, i have a complete vb sdk here , and i remember the parallel / serial to ext port interface is in there . ill have to look back at my stuff too i know sometimes i nab way more than i can chew at certain moments , and when i get back on the project at later times i find gems in the archive to the point i surprise myself with. i know i still have the power glove to parallel and serial interface , for *nix based or winblows based os.

that combo of low tech mingled on some usb or wireless usb and the thing would be a worth while project.

hahaha totally! I'm also 99% certain that the REND386 libraries also contain GLOVE.h or GLOVE.c built in with it, so you can work everything (6DOF and stereoscopic image processing) from that one library source..

Of course, though, like I said, this is info from a book that's 16 years old so there's probably something much better out there now!
