ya, so, i got this LG GD510 cellphone this week.

It was on the rogers network, and i got it unlocked to Fido (the network i'm on).

So i managed to figure out mainly everything i need to, expect for installing apps & games...

I installed the "PC Suite 3" program on my pc, and it lets me get into the phone (while plugged in) and edit contact info, transfer pics & music etc etc etc...

it also installs these .jar games & apps onto the phone, but when it's done, it just says "finish installation on the cellphone interface" or wtv.

so when i check the cell, nothing pops up, when i try to open the files in the media section, nothing happens etc... (and the files i downloaded are specifically for this model of phone and others)

any tips/clues/advice/help???
I'm feeling like a sketchbook! right now..

i got the phone free from my dad. (he got a new phone from rogers from his contract, but i gave him a brand new one 6 months earlier so he kept that one)

i had to pay 40$ for the unlocking tho (which i prolly could of paid less for, but i tried doing it myself for a couple nights, and it just wasn't working with any of the free codes...)

all in all, I'm quite happy with the new phone, but it comes with demo games, and only like 2 apps, which are pretty useless, so i wanted to jazz it up a bit, but nothing seems to be working when i try to install (plus i don't have internet access in my plan, so i can't use the phone to shop for new ones)

If it ain't working it might means that you'd need to update your java software.

hahaha if someone have an answer for me ill take it anytime

ive bought a motorola dext mb200 on android:

awesome phone ive bought on ebay from t-mobile... received it... unlocked it... insert FIDO sim card and the services always crash and 3g doesn't work.... troubleshoot... troubleshoot hard reset, look on howardsforum... apparently Ive heard getting a NEW sim card could solve the problem cuz mine is pretty old..

so ive bought a new sim card... great! now everything works fine! i can call no problem EXCEPT NO 3G ! im always on EDGE and it makes me shit because i pay 25$ per month for a 500mb 3g data plan

if i plug my sim card to my old iphone 3g the 3g DOES work so problem is not sim neither fido

sooooo ive read on howardsforum that configuring yout APN like this will resolve the problem:

name: fido
apn: [ internet.fido.ca ]
user: fido
pword: fido
mcc: 302
mnc: 37

doesn't work either, im pretty sure my phone is not broken... oh and my android os is up to date.

im willing to send 20$ by paypal to the person who will give me the proper information that will make me able to use 3g on my phone.
I'm feeling vroum vroum right now..

From what I understand, the 3G plans are NOT all the same for every phone; an iPhone 3G plan won't work if you put your sim into a Blackberry, and vice versa. I think it's got to do with different protocol signatures or something of the sort. If you want to use 3G, you need a phone that your provider also uses (or at least has phones of that company that they support) and you have to have a plan that matches the device you're using.

Essentially, without changing your plan, you're SOL.

uh i know fido does not have any android phones but from what ive heard 3g is 3g and is the same from a phone to another... yeah BLACKBERRY is the only exception witch have a totally different 3g bundle according to a fido CSR

blackberry, htc, whatever... they can all work on sims card if they have the slot underneath the batteries. if the phone ain't a "world phone" ( sim and cdma ) and is only cdma, then, you cannot put a sim card in it. and for the android part, android or wm6 you can change the operating system really easily. i used to have an htc touch and i ws able to run a mac os on it you could also put linux on the phone but it was not really a good idea...

on s'arrengera de quoi un moment donné justin pis j t arrengerai ca!

it's more about the data plan, you cannot have a blackberry data plan on an iphone, vice versa, as well as you cannot have a regular data plan on both of them. you can have those on the "regular" smartphones using wm6, android etc...

duh until now this is the best answer i got from howardsforum anf few people agreeded on the board:

Yeah i think that may be your problem. 1 year ago i had a htc magic from tmobile. everything worked except it maxed on Edge because it was tmmobile. They use different frequencies for 3G that Rogers/Fido. Has to be an AT&T phone for that.

soooo monday im gonna call fido to remoove my data plan, doesnt matter too much there is wi-fi everywhere here and ill get 25$ more to spend per month on something else lol

sorry, im new to having a cell that does anything more than make phone calls and text messages lol.

the games i'm trying to install are indeed java, and the phone already has some pre-installed (but they're shitty and only demo's).

i guess i'm gonna need to try to update my java, and/or firmware. then try again...

if you have bluetooth i believe theres a few cool hacking tools in jave for mobiles.
check the link someone posted about jars in this topic or just search for : mobile java games
also you need to be able to connect to your cellphone from a computer so you can upload them JARZ.
or if you have a bluetooth adapter on your computer you might be able to push the files onto the phone but im not sure it would work since the cellphone industries a fucking bastards and they dont want people to do this so they use a specific directory and on MOTOROLA w385 for example you need to delete certain files that contain the list of paid apps ...

long story short : google your model with the words hacking or modding
I'm feeling remembering the old-school vibe right now..
