 Coolness: 103325 | I got attracted when i was like 14 my brother listend to psytrance and went to raves and so i attended soma 2005 i think it was.
then started to produce psy and started to dj then play my live sets... then i realised how bad this scene is getting.. horrible sound systems like 9/10 times. horrible venues 9/10 times. parties just loaded with hard drugs. shitty promoters(for the most part) the reason the parties sucked is because most promoters don't have money in the first place to be making a party,yet they do it anyways.....ok |

PERIOD Its not about the promoters, its not about the decor , its about dj's and producers playing good performances and good friends surrounding you with that. I went to some fucking great raves in 1994, 1995 with amazing deco like this one -> Cosmic baby @ Destiny - February 95 - incredible.. they must have spent thousands on deco and laser lighting and fog machines and tunnels made out of trippy cobwebby stuff. probably the best deco I have ever seen - light years above anything I've seen lately (I wish I'd thought to bring a camera and take pics back then =( 
and this one... first appearance of DJ Hype - May 95. great venue - gigantic empty warehouse in Parkdale before..

actually back in the early 90s, it was expected that reputable promoteres would try and create a unique experience for people. they had raves at the Ontario Science Centre - and people were able to play around with different trippy science exhibits when they were all high =) and - they actually somehow got permission to have a rave up in the top of the CN tower !!! 
so I don't think you can really say 90s raves didn't have good venues or deco - lol. that's actually a *very* untrue statement. |

The vibe. Drugs. The love for the music came a bit later, but I'm still not a fan of most rave music. Last time I've been impressed by music at a "rave" probably was at last Soma (Taal Mala's set was very good). There's still events worth going for the music (some picnik electroniks, mutek, SAT, etc) but it's rarely "rave" parties. Still enjoy dubstep and psytrance enough to have fun dancing all night though. The day DJs will start pushing boundaries a little more is the day I'll start going to raves for the music. |

I was discovering electronic music by myself around the age of 13-14. I met this crazy lesbian gurl who told me i should go with her and her girlfriends to a party... They brought me there, At Laboratoire ,a hardcore rave, i was 15 on 2 buvard and it was the start of a long long story .Never ending story!!! ( I'm still there 12 years after haha ). This place , le Laboratoire on Rosemont was a pretty epic venue as well. Does someone know what ever happen to that place? |

And theres lots of parties without deco or a nice venue. Heck montreal just through one am i not correct , where eveyrone came back dirrty, last time i check that would be outdoors and theres no roof to hang deco or post up pictures... so it happens and people think its epic. Cuz you dont need deco or a nice venue to have an epic rave jeeez. Rave snob? Or reformed clubber? Before going to my first rave I listend to electronic music since i was 9. Having a brother 6 years older then you will do that, so would living with that brother and his 4 friends and gf. The gf is now my sister. My sister who took me to my first rave thank you |

My sister who took me to my first rave thank you well no offense to you megz but i kinda find the whole'' you don't need good deco promotion,sound system bla bla to have fun it's about your spirit and your attitude is bullshit. that's just being ignorant of it,still it's not a bad thing,and good for you,but for me and i think alot of people it has to do with all that, you need money nowadays to make/do anything that has real fun..yes sad to say...but it's true. and the majority of the promoters don't, they just wanna have fun and feel special and try to make people happy by throwing parties and making them selfs broke in the end. alright your keeping the scene alive,great move, but ur not helping it grow that way at all. it's like feeding the pigeons so they keep coming. I fucking hate pigeons the last parties i'v been to in the past like 4 years we're in random places with dust all over the fuckin floor, either cold as fuck or hot as fuck, with shitty sound systems. you have to be high off your Arsch to keep coming and enjoying it. Im also kind of disgusted by hard drugs now too. I blame the fiends in this scene who have disgusted me(thanks tho). I was in love with raves tho when i was a kid and high off my ass and growing up,, now it just feels like u know.....grow the fuck up and move on to more important things.
