it might push even more people to psytrance once they realize all those other styles are really totally unbearable over long periods of time :P

.....drum n bass people say exactly that about psy-trance. i don't think that this is an objective answer. there are people who truely love drum n bass and jungle, and there is a possibility to create a very interesting progression through the night in that style as well.
something like... start with breakbeats stuff, move through to some harder drum and bass and make it more jungle and then play something with more reggae samples in the morning.
(or someone correct me, i'm not the expert here.) ;)

same with psy-trance. a night of only full-on would be boring. that's why we do something like techno-prog, psychedelic, twilight, full-on, morning, prog...

i like it when the progression becomes more important than who is actually playing. it doesn't matter who puts the tracks on, as long as they are right in tune with the progression of the whole night.
i wonder if drum n bass can ever have that smoothness. i've not been to that many drum n bass parties. someone please tell. i'm blabla-ing :D

i also think that psy does not really have a place in, say, happy hardcore room in a party. it's such a different trip, a different vibe. hhc/freeform/what-ever-new-style-that-fits-there/vocal-cheese-trance in the morning. take speed or e, and leave the acid for the psy-trance parties...

make the whole rave as if it was one long coherent dj set, find focus, then you lose the sense of time... not when you need to look at what time it is because you want to know what music plays next. the changes of dj just becomes soooo obvious, and the integrity of the experience looses a lot because of that.

That is very well said. There are a lot of promoters out there making big efforts, but most of them are not necessarily sold 100% to a single style of music. I don't think they necessarily should, and varied parties can be quite fun, but sometimes, trying to make everyone happy does the opposite.

I also believe that certain styles of music are not meant to be enjoyed one after the other. It can be a bummer for a dj to be given the task to keep the hype on a room with, say, psy trance, when it's full of kandy kids that were enjoying their cheesiest hhc anthems 2 minutes ago, or vice-versa. They might not feel like switching tempo so radically, and decide to go take a breather instead.

haha your wrong mike. 3 hours of andy c alone isnt enough for muy ears. I choose 1 party each month, this month I had the choice of a psy trance party for $10 or breaks/jungle for $15. I chose the breaks and jungle and dont regret it. And I like psy trance just as much as you
Theres a reason why the term jungle party is used, and used quite frequently in lets say the uk and toronto... for example.
I can do a full night of full on psy trance, i can do a full night of funky breaks the same can be said for jungle too.
because I truly love each genre equally and each one i love equally ALOT. If you really love a genre of music you can take it for any given length of time

to change music style during the night is a good thing itself, but i think promoters have to build a line-up that makes sense, and goes with the flow.

agreeed.. gotta be able to make sure people wont get to a point that they arent diggin the beat and end up not having fun/dance.. 2 roooms makes sense if you wanna have people from different scenes or you are bound to get some of them bored.. variety is the way to go but it gotta make sense and be rightsized for the crowd that will attend. Then again if we look at psy/DnB as well as hardcore (which right now is a rare thing to see) 1 room 1 style focussed party CAN work too but wont get you as much attendees because only the crowd of that style

IF we look at the biggest partys around, we notice that even tho they are focussed on 1 thing after getting experience and/or doing a few events they have a tendency to reach out to other groups and other styles of music to get more people into the party they are throwing.

These days there's really not enough.. but remember IDJ? That was monthly for like 3 or 4 years I think.. And though most times someone brings in a headliner it's at a club (makes it less of a risk for busts) when we brought down Camo & Krooked that lasted all night, one room DnB one room Psy, and after the headliners we swapped rooms so that both crowds got a chance to hear their music of choice on the main room soundsystem.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

We don't need to do it all night cuz normally people in the dnb/breakz crowd are older and tend to party Earlier. We all gave our soul to party but for now,10 to 3 am events are purfect for this kind of style .Anyway There'S always bunches of afterparties for people who wants to continue party for hours and hours and hours. Different drugs/Differents habits/Different Lifestyle. Picnik this summer will again have a dnb and a break event with hoursssssssss and hours of the same beat and people will all enjoy it ( not you Alienzed of course ) . Everyone can have their own taste about music, but you talked about a scene you don't know or you know barely. We never really announced our all night event as well cuz we want to keep it mouth to ear so we can all bring / or sell booze. Underground parties ftw.

hm........... not sure about that one. you need to look at if from the other side too ;)
do the parties end at 3am because the people are older, or are there no younger people in drum n bass parties simply because they don't last all night?
&the younger people are the sign of an healthy and growing scene.

Psy parties are rave so of course it will be full of underage people Yoshin. 3/4 breaks/dnb events are in bar 18 + I work at Pearl for the break monthly and i can tell you the average of age is 25-35 years old..I doubt if you calculate the average age in ANY rave party,it will be in the same range. And yes like i said ,there's afterparty for the DNB/Break party goer, but they tend to prefer partying till 3 and then go sleep .

oh and for your information Alienzed, here'S an exemple of a all night dnb / break party :

22:00 Princest Opiate - Lzarium, boboPROD, sixfeethigh,
23:00 Bass-Ic - [ www.ntkrew.org ] - NTK, Twisted Bass, [ uB-Radio.com ]
24:00 Golgo 13
01:00 Host One - [ www.myspace.com ] - HckswDvsn/OneTonSoldiers™
02:00 Spo_Onani (Canada, Quebec, Quebec) - [ www.orgonenrglab.ca ] - upsessions
03:30 dez1 (Canada, Quebec, Quebec) - [ www.musicnfriends.ca ]
03:30 Cyre - [ www.ravezone.qc.ca ] - Old School, Syndroma, Kanibalz
06:00 MelodrastiK - [ myspace.com ]
07:00 Plecko (Jungle / Drum and Bass)

It worked super well and everyone was happy .Heh

At the dilemn show its started with DNB after breakbeat,(Dilemn),electro, tech , tech , et psy trance
i really enjoyed the style change in the night, The 4 hours tech made a nice drop of BPM and when cosmic orgasm started it was really insane.
sometime variety is good, sometime its what destroy the rave mood.
I agree with the Fact that HHC do not fit really well with psytrance in a line up
and id like to see more breakbeat in rave,i dont know the breakbeat DJ in the scene,i think melo and dialect mix some, buts its not my breakbeat style, i like my breakbeat dark like transverse record, Ayra, xim nbass, audiogore, twisted speakers, the new psybreak wave is awsome
