i don't know fred if you want to have events where people play your kind of music just put a couple of nights together and try to promote your stuff and see if people come, and if people come then maybe those people would be interested in future events...

i mean, your a smart guy, you know how to do this shit, find a few people who play what you like and put a monthly together, hell, i'll come and have a drink and maybe my friends will, come and they will bring their friends...
I'm feeling surly right now..

What I was getting at is that there are so many DnB DJs that have switched over to dubstep or fidget that every DJ is now expected to play the more trendy styles of music, and much as I love some of that stuff and have made some dubstep mixes, it's NOT what I DJ and it's not what I'm going to mix.

Like I said, I'm a HARD DNB DJ, extra emphasis on the HARD.

And apart from Noah's parties or stuff that Twisted Bass throws, what's the bookings/offers I get? I wasn't going into naming names, but I put ONE big-beat mix up for fun and you book me to play Big Beat and don't want me to play DnB (and that's not why I missed that gig, I had eaten something bad).. I give Seb Fullum some mixes to listen to to remind him I still exist, and in that was a couple of the Chopped and Screwhead dubstep mixes I did that I threw in just to give him something to listen to, and he says he'd only book me to play dubstep, despite my saying that they're something I did for fun and that it's not something I want to play out.

So where the fuck does that leave me? No one wants to hear the DnB that I play and everyone expects me to play what they want to hear instead of what I want to play.

FUCK that.

no no, man I get your point and reading your shit DEFINATLY turned me on to the idea of booking you for a nerofunk set! I think you have dope ass selection, the thing is, and this might sound stupid, but when we do the line-ups, we are in a retarded rush to get the shit to the print-shop (this is our own fault, we are ALWAYS very fucking last minute on our shit and we're trying to get better but this is something we must change about ourselves in genereal... me and rhys that is) and we can only think about the last few people we talked to in such and such party and we offen forget some people... you had that big beat mix and it was so dope and impressive, we thought it'd be something really dope to get into the night....

anyways, I always take it somewhat personal when I see people saying the same old bullshit about people "selling out" to dubstep and saying dubstep is just this temporary hype that will die out.. I think that's bullshit... I wasnt even responding directly to you... theres a couple of things I wanted to say and wanted you to know though but either way, I fucking feel for what you're saying and I think you and I have the same relationship/addiction/love of music

but like I said, dubstep is ONE element of the lineage of different styles that emergered from the world of dub and it's production techniques and mentality... and this is the sound I'm pushing... not wobbles, not reverb, not space echo... just heavy bass and good vibrations
Update » rawali wrote on Sun Mar 14, 2010 @ 3:10am
anyways, my main point Fred, is a after reading all you've written, I fucking feel what you are saying, and although we are playing different shit, we fight hard, and try to keep shit going... I see I've been a whole lot luckier than you though and I'll try to give you your chance
I'm feeling lovely right now..

I've thought about it! The only thing for me is that I'm still really fuckin' poor.. welfare - (rents+bills+food) = about 20-30$ a month spending cash; I can't afford to go out for fun, let alone out to try and find a place that would fit what I want to play/host, pay for flyers, have any amount of money to pay guests/other DJs if the door doesn't make enough.

I've actually tried a couple of times when I had a friend that had found some clubs that were actually looking for people to do nights because they were tanking with the ones they had; no one ever got back to me when I let them know what I was trying to start up and get going..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

lame rant

you're looking for sympathy because you don't get booked as often as you'd like, because the style of music you spin isn't very popular...which is a matter of fact.

and on top of that you're poor and have some kind of illness which we should all feel bad about. Reminds me of your own term "psychic vampire"

nobody got back to you when you tried to set up a night, oh noes. did you keep bugging them until something happened?

or did you just bitch online about how unfair it is that nobody loves your dark skullstep vibes. You should be happy that you get to spin Current Value tunes at all, anywhere. What do you want, to headline Mutek?

c'mon son ;D

I started djing when I was 14, yup 14, I was a little kid and I just played music I liked

20 years later I still just play music I like but now I play everywhere...

I can adapt to ANY fucking crowd

Hip hop, ambient, dnb, breaks, dub reggae, you name it

I buy records, I buy cds, I download songs off blogs, I get songs sent to me

I don't give a fuck, I just dj

but hes got a point, if someone only play a certain obscure genre, and that there isnt much scene of this particular genre, then its pretty normal not to get book, and its not a reason to shit on the other people that expand their horizons, its not about being sellout, its about being open minded.

i dont think that the "dnb djs" how plays dubstep or fidget hates the genre and only plays it for booking.

you know, someone can like 2 genres at once...

and fidget and dubstep is "relatively" new, so its not surprising that people start mixing it...

it not like if it was there for 20 years and people pissed on it and all of a sudden they start mixing it.
I'm feeling fidgety right now..

Wont happen

Ya great imput here!
Keep woking on hard,continue
doing positive promo and it
will pay off,especially here
on [ rave.ca ] you have lots of
people that love your mixes
so u could easily throw some
nights at bars or party's even
if don't have the hugest sound system
or biggest place, the vibe and your love
of music will help you in your mission,
just don't go shitting on people cause
it aint to your fancy,i remember u ranting against
some small party promoters including myself
when you never attended one of my events!
What goes around comes around!

Love & light!!!

To sum his reply up

I'm a dj called Bliss, I'm a not purist, I play everything, no wait, I like whoring myself out to keep getting booked

No one keeps telling me how better I am than every other DJ out there, boo hoo

Well I got two word for you my friend

Attention Whore

I keep to myself for a while then at one point, I feel the need to start unnecessary drama to focus everyone's attention on me

I started djing when I was 14, yup 14, I was a little kid and I just played music I liked

20 years later I still just play music I like but now I play in a few bars and like to call that "everywhere"

I can adapt to ANY fucking crowd

Hip hop, ambient, dnb, breaks, dub reggae, you name it. Hell, I'll even play the entire High School Musical 2 soundtrack to please a crowd of prepubescent girls if I have to. I'm that starved for recognition

I buy records, I buy cds, I download songs off blogs, I get songs sent to me

I don't give a fuck, I just dj

And when I'm not DJing, I just go around painstakingly reminding everyone I am and how good at it I am
I'm feeling [__insert emotion here__] right now..

hey man, when I do work.. whether it is photo stuff or sound work.. I work to get paid. If someone wants to do something I think is cheesy, that's not my problem.. I just take their idea and do the best thing I can do with it while pleasing the client..

I do my own shit too and I can do anything I want there but I have to hustle if I want to make money from it. I just make a seperation between job art and personal stuff.
I'm feeling meow right now..

I must admit that Screwhead got a point About Dubstep. Those day everybody seems to like it, i know people that doesnt like EDM at all, but they like dubstep.I like dubstep, but i dont like the dubstep they play at those Events,I prefer killer Alien,Rdubz,Engine-earz experiment,Takomo(dubstep), not Nero(UK), or benga.Im an electronic music addict I listen most of the style, they all have there force and there weakness.I like diversity, u can prefer a genre but saying that all the other genre sucks is just be closed minded.Im not and hardcore guy or jungle, breacore but im sure in my life a DJ gonna change my mind by playing one mindblowing set.

You obviously don't know me at all lol...

Find me one time where I've ever said I was better than anyone :)

As for whoring myself, I don't need to suck dick to get gigs

They just show up in my mailbox when I'm sipping my morning coffee

Anyhow as usual you missed the whole point of what I saying

Diversity will get you gigs, purism just leads to a frustrated dj
Update » Blisss wrote on Mon Mar 15, 2010 @ 6:48pm
PS The irony of this thread is that if Screwhead's style of dnb was actually super popular and he was getting tons of gigs, the discussion would probably be revolving around how "commercial" his dnb is and how much of a sellout he is, the same exact complaints he's currently making about dubstep.

;)
