Might just be my earphones, but I could very clearly hear the 17kHz but heard nothing for 18kHz..
I'm feeling almighty right now..

Smart test; use MP3 files to test out hearing of high-range frequency, when MP3 compression works by stripping out sound above the 'standard' human hearing!

Regardless of that, though, with these files I can hear up to 21,000 hz, but that last one of 21,000 I've got to get my ear within 1' of the speaker to pick it up, the rest I can hear fine sitting down about 2 1/2 to 3' away while sitting next to a basement window on Pie-IX with traffic.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

all of them , herd.

dude , on top of that its audible, thoses cheap mp3 are completely distinguishable from sound card generated hz.

on top that harmoniques gets mingled up in mp3. if you cannot identify the difference , thats because you have class b, c or d + type amp. your phase is probably only in one quadrant , thus you missing it. or youre deaf something..

protip : look at the frequency response on the packaging before buying, and anything with a volume control on the headphone cord is doom to poor response.

my guest neoform you need new headfones, or you hang too long next to the power amps of shows , witch arent at all the quality of studio amps too.

my test was done on a peavy cs800 '70s with 2x 400w univoc '60s . this is vintage too. what are you using to claim this cannot be heard ???
I'm feeling tarfu right now..

yeah, fucking hell I just loaded one up in Winamp by accident, they're fucking 192k MP3s, most of what we're hearing is noise from the shitty conversion job

my bass starts to rumbles at 2hz +/- 25% ( cheap speakers ) and at -25db +/- 5% of a 400w driven at quarter level. i can slide the frequency up to 48,000hz at -6db +/- 100% and still hear the range of degrade from 44khz to 48khz on that system, normally at +6db thou you can make one identify the difference if he hadn't before at -6 in that range.

esp. in mp3 the average of the track isnt even zero out properly and suffer form compression , thus making an obvious difference in the whole limits of sound . this can be proof by overlaying both on scope (compressed and raw) and note the chromatograph result screwhead provided elsewhere, shows a difference too.

some ppl a gifted enought with sense, some have other talents. its not a competition ian , but fucking reasonning and testing facts.

also ian , if your sound path isnt linear (ie , if your input is cranked all the way and a low master) you will get cheap quality like what your living. start living at 0db first so whe can identify if its your ears , headphone of setup thats preventing you.
I'm feeling tarfu right now..

That's not how mp3 compression works actually..

Side note to cutter:

"my bass starts to rumbles at 2hz", no speaker accurately reproduces any sound below 10Hz (it's way too hard on the amp and requires a shitload of power. Trying to get any volume out at sub 40Hz frequencies will likely blow your speakers out), and you certainly can't *hear* anything even close to that, the lowest you can likely hear is 20Hz.

Hearing above 20kHz is considered rare for any adult since most adults over 25 can't hear past 16kHz..

I heard up to 17hz cause I don't lie to myself and say "yeah, i totaaaally heard that", even when I could barely hear it.

You can claim to hear it all you want, but I have my doubts that any of you are really telling the truth other than deadfunk.

the test really doesn't work with 192KBps MP3s. Using the tone generator in Audacity, I can hear up to roughly 24 kHz.. at 24.5 I think I still hear something, but I'm not sure.. from 25-26 (in .5 kHz intervals) I feel the SPL more than hear any actual sound, and it's only at 26.5 that I can't hear/feel anything at all anymore.

I will add, though, that I'm a special case; when I was younger I was suffering from incredible migranes for a long period of time, and I'd hear things that "weren't there"

I had hearing tests done and it was determined that, at the time, my hearing range was only slightly lower than that of a dog, I think it peaked out around 40kHz. From grade 2 to grade 6 I carried around ear plugs incase I ran into a sound that started to irritate me to avoid migranes, and it's only around 10-11 years old and got into high school that I stopped using them because I got a walkman and always had it on when I wasn't at home or in class.

Much as I love listening to music, that's one of the main reasons I always have my music up loud and have headphones glued on to my ears when I'm en route somewhere; taking the metro or the bus is physicaly painful for me, and it's like a sensory overload on my hearing.

Right now, I'm sitting in my room with the door close; no music playing, but I've got two 19" CRTs and my computer going (which is fairly silent, but you can still hear the fan) and the trafic out on Pie-IX is in full effect... And I can hear my roommate change the chanels on the TV; not by the sounds from the show, but by the dips and changes in the hum generated by the screen.

man , whats the point of fishing for anwsers if its to toss them by sleigh of hand, without your lurking more than your short world you call yourself.

man i provided numbers and i stand by them , i repair lot of stuff and tvs/monitor being one of them : do you know what whistle a tv makes when its defective ? its in the the early mhz region and depending the part it can even be in the IR region.

from my 10y experience professionnaly as a electronic tech , and same lengh with electronic music, when thoses defects occurs i hear them , i memorised the chimes and now today all your music gear is lowfi compare to the fastswitching powersupply noise , and other various suppoosedly impossible to hear but its only because you dont give attention to detail in sounds.

thank you have a nice day , next time keep question to yourself if your not prepare for real life answers that blow your mediocre mind out of uppermongolia.

if you werent an asshole , i could have let you listen to it on a real soundsystem , but looking at how condensed with pretention your assumptions are, i kinda prefer knowing you are kepth stupid, so enjoy your life stuck with yourself and yourself only.

again take any cs800 with a set of 400w phased speakers and you can hear up to your shit samples of 21 and 22khz. and more

It's more likely that you're hearing speaker distortion than actual 24kHz sounds. Human's can't hear that high.. you should go to a real hearing test done by a doctor with proper equipment if you wanna do a hearing test. I suspect you cannot hear about 19kHz as that would be very rare.

Yeah, I'm wrong.. along with, pretty much everyone else in the world.

Do a simple google search of "human hearing range" and you will see every single result telling you that humans can hear between 20 to 20,000Hz, where the upper range is almost exclusively for very young children, and that we lose our high frequency hearing with age.

I haven't been to the casino since may. went negative on 8 consecutive sessions. got so pissed off that I haven't been back since. (when you're luck is so shitty, that you are all in preflop with KK THREE separate times (in one session), and manage to get sucked out by a caller that had KT, KQ and AK... it's time to quit poker).
