Vietnam -> FAIL
Corea -> Pull out fail
Irak -> Pshaww.. still going, 10 years later -> Fail
Afghanistan -> FAIL.

ok, I guess they kinda had a part in the ww2 win, but hell, they were FAR from alone...

Silly americans.

Even then, WWII was kinda unfair. They were pretty much isolated, and oh so profited from ongoing fighting in Europe.

When they DID move their lazy asses, all they did was mop up what the Russians couldn't.

USA - Lazy, profiteering bums.
I'm feeling caffeinated right now..

I think they won overall, there's no more USSR and they're keeping high pressure on European Union not to form.

The war themselves they all lost but the thing is a lot of armies define their action with an evil second part : Defend our nation and it's interest.

War victories are not always clean cut. If victory for you means total anihilation, then no, they haven't won much.

But if you mean control of land/ressources (often the real concern behind wars), then yes, they have won many. Starting with the one in 1776 :)
I'm feeling discordian right now..

true. but the way the CIA got the USSR to collapse was by covertly destabilizing the pro-Soviet puppet regime in Afghanistan, thus provoking them into invading. Anerica had just got a big black eye with Vietnam, so the plan was to give the USSR it`s own unwinnable war, which is just what happened.

so the CIA and Pakistani ISI helped create fund and train the Mujahidin to bog down the Soviets in guerrilla war and bankrupt them in the process. and it worked. except with the Mujahidin they created a Golem. because it morphed into Al Qaeda, and now hundreds of naive young soldiers from North America are being used as cannon fodder in a war they will *never* win.

I`m quite sure Al Qaeda still has the same CIA and ISI connects as it did before. they have used the Mujahidin - Al Qaeda as proxy fighters against the former Communist nations. They used them in Afghanistan, then used them during the wars in the former Yugoslavia, as well as against the Russians in Chechnya.

and, it is my belief that whatever role Al Qaeda played in 9 11, there was very high-level knowledge - if not outright complicity - of the impending attacks. they were allowed to happen as a pre-text for the invasion of the oil fields of Iraq and Central Asia.

so for the CIA, yes, they won. the Afghan campaign was the final nail in the coffin of the USSR. they tricked them into moving their troops in. So the Soviets became an occupying army in very hostile territory, which never bodes well and is extremely costly to maintain supply lines. of course, the cost finally ruined them.

classic military strategy, straight from the teachings of the Art of War. but the Afghan people were the real losers. They were getting bombed and shot and brutalized for decades by both sides, and now find themselves being used as pawns, yet again, by the US

the CIA finally won their Cold War. but once that war was finsihed they now needed a new enemy to justify endless war - so instead of Communism, the `war is waged against Islamofascism.

it is unwinnable - and not to mention it is racist and morally reprehensible to classify all Arabs, Persians and Muslims as *the Enemy*. but this is exactly what they need people to think, just as Orwell predicted when he wrote 1984.

the people who lose are the civilians, and the soldiers who are sent to die, and people like us who could potentially be attacked in revenge for what our governments are doing to people over there. but for the military-industrial complex, it`s a victory.

They get their endless war, they supply the technology to bomb other countries, and then get the contracts to rebuild, once the smoke has cleared. They get to sit in their well-guarded exclusive manions and count their billions, while everyone else pays the price.

yup. the Monroe Doctrine. It magically gave America the green light to interfere in the affairs of any country within their `sphere of interest`. which at the time (the 1830s, off the top of my head) was North and South America. now, the CIA`s *sphere of interest* is global.

Carlin ftw! I've got original copies of two of the first Carlin records (the 3rd and 4th, AM & FM and Class Clown) and I grew up listening to them... He was a genius, and so far ahead of his time in terms of his comedy.
