What utter bullshit.

Such a waste of money on a cancer that's not even the top killer for women. Breast Cancer is only talked about because it's an indirect way to talk about tits.

I'd rather have Heart Disease or Lung Cancer awareness (you know, the top two causes of death for women) but I guess that lungs are not as sexually inspiring.
I'm feeling smart went crazy right now..

I hear u on that but cancer is cancer and no matter how it is put out there it is fatal as any other! Breast cancer runs in my family even though i am young i still get regular screenings and still no cancer!

wow

Hey now, I'm not shitting on Breast Cancer. My mother beat breast cancer and I know it's hard.

I'm not saying money shouldn't be spent on research. I'm saying, breast cancer should in no way be as publicized as it is. When gas stations redecorate their pumps with pink ribbons, they're not supporting breast cancer, they're supporting a trend. Their money's not going to cure the cancer, it's there for "showing they care". Which doesn't go anywhere but their banks.

We should want to eradicate "cancer", not "this" one over "that" one, is all I'm saying.

I dare you to find a comparable campaign for lung cancer. It might not be as "scary" as breast cancer but it still kills more women than breast cancer. Women should be scared of that first :) And yes, breast cancer gets more money than other cancers. Because every single female of importance at one point or another "raises awareness" for it, thus raising money for it, which they don't normally do for other types of cancer.

But again, I'm not shitting on the victims, so you can stop thinking that I do.

The waste of money I'm referring to is all the show-off crap that, yes, costs money. Every show like this costs money. I think we're all aware at this point that cancer is bad, so spending most likely thousands to tie together bras and hire spokespersons and tv crews and whatnot...

THAT is a waste of money.

there are tons of commercial everywhere, on tv, newspaper, metro, on the pack of cigarettes that are trying to prevent lung cancer with hard message

im thinking right now of "the sunny side of truth" commercial of last year that would be on tv every 15 minutes.

Alot of money is put to fight against cigarettes (and the opposite as well unfortunately).

but i get your point and maybe those commercials should put more emphases on the problem of lung cancer

i haven't get that in your first post, but i agree totally now that it's understood ;)

oh and from wikipedia (whatever it means :P) : "Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related death in men and the second most common in women (after breast cancer)"

Really now? I've read that Breast Cancer was 3rd. I guess they do the switcharoo once in a while?

Number one is still heart disease :)

And yeah, I don't count anti-smoking campaigns as being pro lung-cancer awareness, since they don't focus on the cancer but on everything the cigarette does (including still births, birth defects, asthma in children, brain diseases, etc).

Yeah okay, according to the World Health Organization, in 2002, they had a difference of 0.4%

yeah that's what i meant by putting more emphasis in them for lung cancer

well at least we agree :P

does life is too short to be scared of cancer or is that being naive and scared of reality (like hiding yourself from the facts)

should we care or just live one day after another?
Update » Daf wrote on Fri May 29, 2009 @ 12:58pm
im asking that because sometimes i feel bad when i say to myself that the least i think about it the better i feel

Well, the good news is that as science progresses, this type of thing might end up nonexistent, even indirectly cured when we really understand our DNA.

It doesn't help today's victims, though.

I guess it depends how you perceive the world. Should we strive to survive as long as possible? Personally, I don't think so. It's all about the experiences you have while living, not how long the trip took. But others see otherwise and I can understand that they would try to eradicate whatever would stop them in their tracks.

Personally and I'm sorry if it offends anyone, I don't think we're meant to live this long and if we really wanted to make a difference, we'd start by curing children diseases and problems before going after whatever develops in our golden age, an age we were not even genetically supposed to reach.

i agree

i am also someone who think the human should not live as long as other people wish

and more i think about it, more i think that living one day after another without being scared of what could happen tomorrow might be naive but is the best way of living

Well, the day I die, I die. Simple as that. I'm not going to fight it with pills and crap.

Also, the day I stop contributing in any way to society, I'll blow my brains out and give the rest to science. :)

I got to that situation. I didn't fight it. But other people did for me, without asking my opinion :)

The only way I'd change my mind on that is if my death meant a world of problems for someone else.
