Veggie for 1 1/2 years and i've never felt better. I've been trying to be "normal" since i quit ciggies and eat junk food and stuff, i can't. Popcorn at the movies, chips, some candy...i almost choke they taste so bad...i ask "when did they become so salty?" or "did they always taste like chemicals?"

I usually eat organic apples and stuff, when i don't i can taste the pesticides...no joke.

Thank god Stewert's Orange Soda, beer and coffee still taste the same.

Yeah, I hear you there amanda! A few years ago when I got out of the hospital, I was extremely anemic and had to eat horse meat daily along with taking HUGE iron suplements 3 times a day. I was also told by the hospital that I wasn't alowed to eat processed food (kraft cheese, hot dogs, fast food, etc) because of how unhealthy they were, and I was also told NOT to eat "health food" because they had a severe lack of proper vitamins that the body needs to help fight infections and disseases.

Amanda and $pooky: meat didn't save your lives, iron did. Doctors suggest meat because the iron in it gets absorbed easier. The logic behind it is that you'll only need to eat a serving of meat as opposed to say, 2 servings of spinich or beans. Vitamin C will help absorbtion.

And the doctor making that "health food is lacking..." claim must of been talking about eating like, twigs and bark or something because if you eat fruits,veggies,grains....you'll get everything you need.

No, it's because of the same reason that vegetarian diets are unhealthy: There are certain kinds of iron and proteins that are ONLY available in meat. Sure you can get iron from spinach (Which I would have GLADLY eaten for every meal, I love 'em) but it isn't the same iron as if you would take it from meat. The iron in meat was "designed" to be "for meat", which us humans are made of, as opposed to the similar iron found in vegetables, iron that is "tailored" for plants, which we humans are not.

And no, the doctor went through a whole list and told me what I should avoid. They went into details on what consists processed foods and why they were bad for me, and what consists "health food" and why it was bad for me. Fruits, veggies and grain, contrary to popular "new-age" spiritual beliefs, do not have all that the body needs to survive healthily, especially if you are fighting something that is killing you. The vitamins and proteins and minerals and all that that are in "healthy" and "veggy" stuff are NOT designed to sustain things made of "meat" like people, they are designed to keep the plants alive, and humans aren't vegetables, so we metabolise the vitamins etc. diffrently than if they were obtained from a meat source, where all the minerals and stuff that are in there are designed to support and keep alive something made of meat.

The diffrence is minute, but its still a diffrence, and the body wasn't designed to take the diffrent proteins/etc exclusively.

i dunno Fred.. Back in the days when people looked more like monkeys, they didn't need meat.. in fact, there teech weren't even sharp enough to chew it up. Until some fat lard american monkey decided to eat that dead bear and brought some to his kids.. (fucker), then our teeth kinda evolved towards meat.

but yes, we could live great lives on plants :)

I'm certain that we can probably live really well on plants alone, but if it comes down to eating meat and living, or not and risking the chance of dying because there are things in the meat that arent in the plants, I think it says a lot about the plants "health" content for the needs of our body.
